Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election after the Associated Press and other major news outlets called the presidential race favorable to him.
“Every citizen, I will fight for you, your families and your future,” Trump said in a speech to supporters at a campaign watch party in Florida, adding that he would make people feel confident about their vote. “Very happy” and “very proud”.
“We have a country that needs help, and needs help badly,” Trump said. “We’re going to fix our borders. We’re going to fix everything that’s wrong with our country.
At the time of his speech, Trump had secured 267 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House and was leading in several key races, including Michigan and Wisconsin. The counting continues.
Meanwhile, the Harris campaign announced that the vice president would not speak immediately and supporters left her election vigil party.
While some celebrated, many in Hollywood and the music industry were shocked — including Bette Midler, who quoted journalist and essayist H.L. Mencken in one of the night’s harshest responses.
“When a candidate for public office faces the electorate, he is not dealing with reasonable people; he is dealing with reasonable people. He is dealing with a group of people whose chief distinguishing characteristic is their utter inability to weigh ideas, The inability to even comprehend anything but the most basic of ideas… The Presidency tends to be filled by people like this year after year, and as the system of democracy improves, the office becomes more and more representative of the inner soul of the people.
The quote continues, “Some great and glorious day, the common people of this land will finally realize their heart’s desires, and the White House will be decorated by a complete idiot.”
As Trump’s lead grew throughout the night, Cardi B’s tweets were short and direct: “We need a Hail Mary,” she tweeted in support of Kamala Harris Finally, she was visibly shocked by the turn of events. On Instagram, she took it a step further, posting “I hate you bad people” on her Story.
Marc Rebillet posted on X, “F— Donald Trump.”
