CBS announced today that Kathy Bates’ “Matlock” reboot/reimagining/sequel/other series has been renewed for a second season.
The network shared the news via a press release Tuesday afternoon.
“MATLOCK, reimagined by Jennie Snyder Urman, has surprising twists and turns, and as soon as we saw the first episode cast by the talented Kathy Bates, we knew we had something very special,” said CBS President Amy Reisenbach. .
“The response and critical acclaim from viewers has been overwhelming. We can’t wait to start season two.

The renewal announcement, while early, is not surprising.
The show and its star received rave reviews, and Matlock had no trouble finding an audience.
In fact, Matlock’s September sneak peek generated record ratings for CBS.
The episode drew 7.73 million viewers, making it the network’s strongest non-Super Bowl series premiere in more than five years.
Clearly, like her sharp-edged protagonist, Kathy Bates still has what it takes.
