“I’m really happy to be able to do anything now,” Cher told the British audience. “I’m older than dirt now, okay? I’m the oldest person I meet in almost every room, unless I’m in a nursing home.

Cher released her first album as a duo with her then-husband Sonny Bono in 1965, Sonny & Cher, and launched her solo career that same year, beginning a career that would eventually crown The journey of the “Goddess of Pop”.

In October, Cher was honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony that also included Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Peter Frampton and others.

In a well-received speech at the ceremony, Cher recalled the advice her mother gave her as a child that has guided her career to where she is today. “She said to me, ‘You may not be the most beautiful, you may not be the smartest, you may not be the most talented, but you are special,'” she said. “She always instilled in me this philosophy: ‘If you’re down and out, you’re going to get back up again.'”

Cher continued her speech, making sure the women in the audience paid attention to her words. “One thing I never do is I never give up. I’m talking to women, okay — you’re on your own,” she said. “We were in trouble, but we kept trying, we kept moving forward, we were important. As my mother said, we were special.
