As predicted, Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 5 brought us more action, mystery, and just the right amount of warm and fuzzy feelings.
After a promo showed Seyfried in (another) precarious situation, it’s hard not to feel a little worried for the guy.
Fortunately, we made it through the incident without any major casualties.
Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 5: Call of the Week
Sticking with the typical pattern, there are two main calls for members of 51 to follow.
The transfer truck accident (which made one of my biggest fears come true, thank you very much) gave Seyfried another near-death experience.
As usual, he escapes certain death for a few seconds, then he and Stella spend the rest of the time investigating the cause of the crash.
In this week’s big nursing case, Violet and Lizzie treat a man injured in a random attack.
Fortunately for everyone, a handsome and capable bystander was there to lend a helping hand.
As they left the scene, Lizzie joked about the good Samaritan’s handsome appearance, which should have been enough to indicate that he would be back before the hour was over.
As a viewer, I tend to pay less attention to the weekly calls and focus more on the overall plot and character development.
But even I admit that the case we see in this episode is compelling.
Like I said, transfer trucks absolutely scare me.
So witnessing the aftermath of a serious collision and hearing about the concept of “ghost driving” 24-hour shifts raised my blood pressure a bit.
If I don’t hit the highway in the next few weeks, we’ll blame Dick Wolf and the producers of “Chicago Fire.”
Regardless, even though there are a few funny cases, the real excitement of the hour comes from the characters we know and love.
A few days of character development
It never ceases to amaze me how much the “Chicago Fire” writers can fit into a single episode, especially without making the story feel rushed.
This week we got to spend some time with a few of the main characters, as they each had their own thing to do.
Stella and Seyfried The hour begins with a glowing reminder that they’re as connected as ever, and then spends the rest of the episode working together like they were born for this.
Purple She tends to think she’s ready to leave Carver, and proves it by buying the handsome bystander she calls a drink.
Lizzie and Ritter Their mutual desire to impress Chief Pascal brings their relationship closer, with Lizzie once again showing that she is a true friend who can win without a fight.
herman and kelly Despite being mercilessly ridiculed by Tony, Cruz and Cap, they complete the task of buying a new radio for their home.
Pascal After being completely reasonable, fair and inclusive with his team throughout the entire incident, he continued to give me the whiplash.
carver and tori Even though their lies were exposed, their toxic relationship continued, and at this point, they deserved each other.
fly He went out of his way to dress up and host Violet’s birthday party at Molly’s house, and the whole team reminded us that they are indeed one big family.
Plus, we get a small cameo from the Chicago PD when Stella and Seyfried ask Trudy to help with their investigation!
The entire episode was a masterclass in how to include the stories of all the big names in the show without overwhelming the audience.
I didn’t find it too much and enjoyed the sweet moments between the characters.
When Ritter fears upsetting Pascal, Lizzie is willing to take responsibility for him.
Ritter told Kelly that Herman was the kind of leader you would follow anywhere.
Stellaride shows us that they are two halves of a whole.
Most of these characters have grown and changed over the years together, never stopping to tell relatable stories we want to hear.
That’s what keeps us coming back every week, more than the action or suspense.
Despite their flaws and complexities, we can still see that they are divine beings.
Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 5 I Can’t Make a Choice
Okay, I know it took me a long time to wax poetic about how awesome this show is.
but.
While we’ve all collectively decided to hate Tori and her creepy, unhealthy relationship with Carver, this week’s scene made me think of the “crazy girlfriend” trope.
I’ll give the writers credit where credit is due because they also show Carver in a rather unflattering light here.
Still, the jealous, possessive, and erratic nature Tori has shown so far is a wake-up call for me.
Time will tell how this relationship will play out, and it certainly doesn’t look like an ending type of ship.
But I sincerely hope this story develops without creating harmful stereotypes about women.
There are ways to show toxic relationships without perpetuating the idea that women are crazy or unbalanced, and I hope the writers can turn this around with Tori before things get out of hand.
Overall, it was a great moment filled with all the elements that give Chicago Fire their magic.
We don’t know much about Pascal’s secrets yet, but it seems like those answers are on the way, so we can be patient a little longer.
Until then, let me know what you think of this episode in the comments!
