Chicago Med enters its midseason hiatus after just eight episodes, so let’s see how it fares.
The long-running medical drama has a new showrunner, who has introduced two new characters to Chicago Med Season 10 so far and brought back an original character as a guest star.
It’s not all good on our Chicago Med Season 10 midseason report card, but ten years later, the series still has a lot to offer, so let’s dive into the good, the bad, and the ugly!
The first half of the season feels short, but it could be a lot worse.
The season following the writers’ strike was ridiculously short, only 13 episodes in total. We’re now eight games done, so at least there’s more to come.
Best Episode – “Trust Fall” (Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3)
Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 3 gets high marks because not only was it incredibly emotional, but it also tricked us into thinking Hannah was going to relapse.
Hannah became my favorite character and I was so scared that she would throw everything away after failing to save her patient’s mother.
Thankfully, Hannah’s mental health issues went in a different direction.
Yes, this episode uses the Chicago Med trope of the mother dying in childbirth again, but it’s done so well that I don’t care.
My heart breaks for Hannah, for the children, and for the mothers who have lost their lives because other doctors didn’t do their jobs.
Worst Episode – “Bad Habits” (Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 5)
Unfortunately, “Chicago Med” followed up the brilliance of “Trust Fallen” with two mediocre episodes.
Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 4 wasn’t memorable, save for the reappearance of nurse Jackie Nelson, who only appeared in one episode before leaving to deal with her mental health issues.
However, the Halloween episode scored even worse on our Chicago Med Season 10 midseason report card because it was almost all crap (except for the Sharon stalker stuff).
I didn’t mind the Halloween party at first. The costumes were cute, didn’t take a lot of time, and it was nice for the characters to do something together.
I wasn’t happy with Sharon’s stalker storyline at first, but the way Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 5 was handled was so bad.
It’s understandable that Sharon would panic because she thought someone was in her home, but why open the door and attack someone with a mace instead of closing the door and calling the police?
Furthermore, when she apologized for punching her teenage neighbor, the boy’s mother was quick to forgive.
To add insult to injury, Sharon’s storyline is juxtaposed with some ridiculous stories about boys with bite marks, which are thought to indicate that real vampires or ghosts are involved.
Halloween was still a better episode than most, but it scored lower on the Chicago Med Season 10 midseason report card because of these two annoying stories.
Best Storyline: Archer vs. Lennox
Sarah Ramos’ Caitlin Lennox is a character who gets more hate than she deserves.
Yes, she’s another one trying to remodel the hospital to fit a new vision, but at least she’s a doctor and some of her ideas are good ones.
Regardless of whether the changes she proposes make sense, she gets too much criticism for simply doing her job, but her tit-for-tat with Archer is interesting.
Archer hated her from the start, and his complaints about her were extremely hypocritical.
Which of them started their operation by deliberately putting the patient in a coma so that they could override the fact that the patient did not consent to the surgery? Not Lenox!
Archer’s ultimatum backfires, but I’m excited for the war between them to heat up.
Sadly, this story had to lose a point on our Chicago Med Season 10 midseason report card, as Archer fully embraced Goodwin’s demotion, spending an episode talking to Lenox Friendly and then suddenly decided to quit.
I’m convinced it was a false out, at least the exit part. Now that Archer has stepped into Sharon’s dangerous situation, the consequences may make him reassess whether he really wants to leave.
Still, the Dean Archer I know and love to hate will only pretend to agree with the idea of relegation while planning to get back to the top, and that’s what I expect from him going forward.
Worst Storyline: Sharon’s Stalker
I love mysteries/thrillers, but this story… wasn’t like that.
Every episode I scored lower lost points due to this stupid story.
Things started out well, with Sharon receiving death threats, but things didn’t go down in a fun or exciting way.
Instead, Sharon spent much of the first half of the season on guard, but nothing happened.
At the end of the Halloween episode, she saw a figure in her neighbor’s ring camera, which should lead to major developments.
instead, Atwater from the Chicago Police Department told Sharon that the stalker was a random white man named Paul Dunn, end of story supposedly, but the real stalker was a black woman named Cassidy, He had some roles in Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 1.
The audience is given almost no clues, and danger and violence appear seemingly out of nowhere, creating an exciting suspense.
I also don’t like the story of someone hiding from hospital security and attacking a staff member with a knife.
I didn’t like The Good Doctor and I didn’t like it here.
Honorable Mention – John Frost
Both new characters in Chicago Med season 10 are great, but I love Frost because he helped fill the Marcel-shaped hole in my heart.
He looks like a young Marcel, even if he does have that goofy teen sitcom star/heartthrob backstory.
I’m not happy with Marcel’s exit. He didn’t; Someone mentioned afterward that they gave him a going away party and he went to Boston.
But Frost’s presence makes things a little better. His banter with Maggie, his cockiness, and his skills as a pediatric resident are all hilarious.
Bits and pieces that contribute to Chicago Med Season 10 midseason report card
These eight episodes are packed with content! Some other things to do to get high and low scores include:
- The roller coaster ride of Hannah and Ripley’s relationship was well done. I went from hating them as a couple to supporting them.
- Every time I think about us getting away from this stupid Pavel getting beaten story, one of the characters pops up again. Supposedly Scully is dying, so I imagine it will end soon, but enough is enough.
- Some medical cases work well. I love Zoe, the little girl with a speech impediment in the season premiere, the best.
- Nurse Jackie could be an interesting addition to the cast if the show gives her a full story.
- Zack’s firing was shocking. I still think they should have used him as the stalker instead of Cassidy.
- I enjoyed Reese’s visit and wanted her to be a thorn in Charles’ side.
