Before we could even catch our breath after the Kiana-centered drama of Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 9, we were plunged into an hour-long battle centered on Ruzek.
We are very happy about this. Let’s be honest, though, Chicago PD Season 12 has been a blast when it comes to exploring characters and balancing screen time with compelling cases and stories.
Well, except Kevin Atwater could use a bigger push. But we are willing to be patient on this.
Ruzek’s cases involving children show his evolution
We’ve discussed the evolution of Ruzek’s character over the seasons.
There are many factors that contribute to this, but frankly, the biggest one is becoming a father.
Ruzek became Makayla’s father long before the show said it out loud, and like most people, fatherhood shaped him and affected him in and out of his job.
It also affects the way he approaches certain cases and his thought process when interacting with victims or suspects, and expands his view of the world around him.
In short, he’s come a long way, in large part because he saw the world through his parents’ eyes and gained a new sense of responsibility to protect and serve.
Some of the strongest and most high-profile cases involve children. It’s also refreshing and progressive that the series often allows Ruzek to be visibly influenced as he takes the case down that avenue, rather than just leaving it to Burgess.
The show shows Burgess to be more than just a working mother, which is priceless. For Ruzek, it’s compelling to see how becoming a father significantly impacted him and pushed him to become a mature, experienced police officer.
Ruzek leads a dark case involving a mysterious child
Under normal circumstances, Ruzek taking on another dark case involving a child would be redundant.
We already know what his undercover assignments on white supremacist cases were like, which led to him fighting for his life after a shooting on Chicago PD Season 10 Episode 22.
But “Chicago PD” Season 12 Episode 10 calls “Zoe” something different, a mysterious young girl who is the key to a dark case.
This situation is likely to be an overarching type of situation that will likely continue into the second half of the season, rather than something the unit will resolve by the end of the episode. At least, it lasts for a few episodes.
In this episode, Ruzek comes into direct contact with a young girl who holds the key to the possible murder of multiple women and even children.
Is Zoe her father’s only crown jewel? Is this why this sadistic man spares her while he builds a new family around her?
Yes, Zoe is an unidentified child, and Ruzek and the others will find her at a crime scene, leading to an in-depth investigation into the darkness surrounding her.
Judging from the promos alone, young Annabelle Toomey is worth watching. In the promo, she appears cold and creepy, sharing with Ruzek that she has a lot of “moms” and “siblings.”
Of course, this casual admission, along with images of police digging into what was probably her backyard and uncovering numerous skeletons, may support what she’s saying.
Is Zoe a victim or a murderer?
Ruzek got in touch with the young girl and planned to address what was going on.
This leads us to think, was she just a child removed from society due to the misdeeds of her father or someone else, or was she equally or solely responsible for these deaths?
Are our children victims or serial murderers?
The creepy music didn’t help our assessment, but it piqued our interest
despite this.
This seems to be a case that bothers Ruzek.
He can be seen in many of the spoiler stills, often lost in thought, or emotionally upset and disturbed by what happened on set.
Still, a girl can never complain about too many Paddy Flueger stills. He looks good!
Chicago PD uses dark cases as character studies
Chicago PD has been delivering cases that are deep, dark, twisted and chilling. Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 5 could give anyone nightmares these days.
We can’t forget the multi-episode story of Voight and a serial killer gluing their victims’ eyes open!
Something tells me this is going to be another case that gives us goosebumps, but in the best possible way.
Of course, the case wasn’t the only noteworthy aspect of the hour. There will also be some interesting developments in Ruzek and Burgess’ home lives.
The plot synopsis teases that an uninvited guest will make a sudden visit and cause some disturbance to Brzek, and we all know that this person is Disco Bob.
A visitor changes Brzek’s personal life
Ruzek’s father was known as a magnet for trouble, bringing chaos into Ruzek’s life whenever he was around. His presence will likely throw Berzek’s life into chaos, but we have to wonder in what ways.
We know Burgess and Ruzek are going to face some challenges, and she’s going to help him figure it out. But is that because of Bob and what happened to him?
Regardless, Gwen Sigan teased some interesting tidbits about Bozek’s personal history this season. Moreover, the two of them will soon be heading to the altar.
Families can be large, with all the drama and complications that come with them. This hour may be the beginning of an introduction to the Brzek family.
We’re excited about this new Ruzek-centric product. And you?
