The cougar conspiracy is alive and well, you guys!
If you were wondering if we’d be revisiting Gloria Perez and the complicated relationship between her and Torres, well, when Torres takes center stage on Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 7 Got the answer.
After Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 6, it’s clear that Gloria hasn’t gone too far and may still be running a drug game on the streets.
Gloria remains in Chicago, continuing the work of her late husband, whom she killed, which is bold.
She was especially bold in doing so because she knew she had served as a CPD informant and had a torrid romance with Torres.
But it also means she has a certain amount of power and influence, and she may want to use it as she sees fit.
You’ve got to hand it to Gloria; she’s a total schemer.
She must get rid of her abusive husband, beat up a sexy young cop she can blackmail, and run a criminal empire.
I was impressed and cared about.
Frankly, I’d rather we left Gloria’s storyline in Chicago PD Season 11 Episode 9 rather than revisiting it, at least not so soon.
This isn’t Torres’ most compelling arc, and we don’t learn much new about his character through it.
If anything, the redundancy of it all is infuriating, and his poor decision-making with Gloria affects how people view him.
But unfortunately, no one is perfect, he will always be people’s favorite.
That’s assuming, of course, that he can survive the scandal and keep his job.
As anyone in the intelligence community would have predicted, Torres’ actions could have cost him his job and jail time.
Because Burgess knew about his relationship with his confidential informant and pieced things together, she could too.
Burgess has just earned her shiny new detective badge, and she’s already facing career-ending challenges.
Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 7 is titled “Confession,” and at least one image shows Torres telling a priest in church what’s bothering him.
He feels remorse for his actions, and repentance is telling the truth and confessing.
But can Torres really admit his relationship with Gloria?
He risks losing his job and going to jail if she threatens him, which is one thing, but we know very well that Torres wouldn’t want anything to happen to Burgess in the meantime.
He is not the type of person who is willing to hold those he cares about accountable or pay for his mistakes.
Torres and Burgess are in a tough spot.
Whatever their latest case is, intelligence services have pieced together that she is the mastermind behind the city’s drug game.
Voight wants her head because he is adamant that the unit knows everything there is to know about Gloria and act accordingly.
But Torres fears that if they pursue her head-on, she has the power to destroy him, his career and intelligence in the process.
It’s a tricky situation, no different than others we’ve seen before, and it’s the first time Torres has tried to deal with one.
In fact, he needed to talk to Voight about it.
We know how good Wart is at taking care of his people and making sure they are protected to the best of his ability.
His signature motto was “Tell me the truth so I can lie for you,” and he stuck to it.
It’s one thing for Torres to confide in Burgess because they’re all in this together.
Still, at some point during this hour, we’d like to see Torres come clean to Voight, take whatever verbal criticism he has to take, and then figure out how they’re going to get out of this situation.
It would be surprising if Torres made it through the entire episode without confessing to Voight, and I don’t see a way around that.
Another interesting point is that this marks Cooke’s first undercover job in the intelligence community.
According to the brief glimpse of Gloria in the promo, she is sitting in a car with Kiana.
Cook is very perceptive and it might not be long before she figures something out and pieces things together.
Hopefully someone can give her some kind of heads up, but even if that’s not the case, what are the chances that Cook won’t find out there’s something else going on with Gloria?
We’ve seen how great her instincts are, and we’ve seen the partnership between her and Torres.
It will be interesting to see if she learns the truth and how it affects her opinion of his or her work on the case.
Cooke looks like she’s pretty good going undercover, but we’ve yet to see her in that type of role.
So it’s exciting that we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in this episode, following the previous Torres-centric episode she shared with Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 4.
The curious are curious to see if she and Torres were always at the center of a mutual connection this season.
Given that Torres has almost back-to-back central characters, figuring out how they choose each episode’s lead has officially become a task.
There was no obvious pattern in their performance.
I think we’ll get another Ruzek vs. Atwater matchup, but it’s hard to say if that will happen.
What are the chances we’ll get something Trudy-centric?
If Gloria is the “big bad” of the entire operation that Intelligence must bust, then her return could give the season a longer arc.
While I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Gloria, it will be interesting to see if that’s the case.
Over to you, Chicago PD fanatics.
