The new year is upon us, and we’re celebrating it with an all-new episode of Chicago P.D., centered on the newest members of the Intelligence Bureau.
If you’ve been following our coverage so far, you know how much we love Kiana Cook.
She breathed new life into the show, and “Chicago PD” feels like a welcome soft reboot of the show.
Chicago Police Department finds intelligence in jeopardy
Now, the team has a lot to deal with after the wild and sometimes heartbreaking events of Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 8, which puts the team in quite a precarious position with the help of the elusive Reed. Stable situation.
Things didn’t get any better on Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 9.
“Friends and Family” will center on Cook as the unit becomes embroiled in a kidnapping case.
Judging from the plot synopsis, the unit will face some “obstacles” in this urgent investigation, so they must use other means to get what they need.
This is where the agency’s mysterious newbie comes into play.
Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 9 Puts Kiana in the spotlight
We don’t know much about Cook outside of work. We know that she was demoted to patrol after she had a run-in with her tactical partner and was basically sidelined.
Kiana is passionate about her work and wants to genuinely help people and do the right thing for others.
We can see just how good and dedicated she is to the job from the way she sprang into action on Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 2.
She also worked well with Torres in Chicago PD Season 12 Episode 5.
Cooke has proven to be a force, but we know very little about her life outside of work, and the midseason premiere promises to rectify that.
We couldn’t be more excited about this!
Cook’s family played an important role in assisting with the kidnapping case
Cook is seeking help from his family, could they too become law enforcement officers? It is also possible that they are on the other side of the law or in a gray area.
Wisdom understands community and fosters connections that lead to success.
Regardless, this episode introduces us to Cook’s family and gives us a full understanding of Cook’s personal history.
This is a promising development for her character. Many characters don’t begin to understand their outside world until later.
Stepping into Cooke’s world outside of the unit means we get more layers to this compelling character that fans love so much.
It will also help us understand her and how she interacts with others.
Will Cooke and Torres’ partnership face obstacles after Gloria?
After the finale, the failure of the Gloria incident strained Torres and Cook’s relationship. He wanted to cover Gloria’s tracks and prevent himself and Burgess from getting into trouble over his affair, which nearly cost Kiana her life.
They understand and immediately respect each other, a development that might be challenged by Torres’ deception.
Understanding Kiana’s personal life may help partners rebuild trust.
For two characters, getting to know each other strengthens their bond.
But it would be great if this time around changed how Kiana interacts with other characters.
Voight is impressed with her, but we’ve yet to see the two spend that much one-on-one time. Kiana’s family may be crucial in helping them out, which could mean we’ll get some Kiana and Voight screen time.
Chief Reed poses threat to intelligence
Interestingly, the intelligence community will face obstacles and Chief Reed will involve himself in it.
The biggest suspense is that Reed knew what happened to Torres and that the team provided him with cover, and he used this information as leverage to become a “friend” of Voight.
But we don’t know what this “friendship” means.
Reed’s motivations are unclear, but what’s worse is that we still don’t know how he found all of this information, which is more concerning than anything else.
Is there a bug in the office? Is there a mole somewhere?
Reed is already sketchy with Burgess and her promotion, and now he’s using Torres’ actions to bring Voight and the intelligence community under his control.
Reed’s motives and methods remain a mystery
But we don’t know what he wants or what he has planned for them. Voight doesn’t like having someone control him, so is it safe to say that Reed is using his power to bring Voight to his knees?
Reed may not be an obstacle in this investigation, but considering what a mysterious wild card he is, it’s hard to shake that theory.
Reed appears in several photos, including those of the entire team, so if he wasn’t an obstacle to them, he would be actively involved in the case in other ways.
Luckily, it’s an all-hands-on-deck situation, as we see the entire team in the spoiler images. So we’re glad the midseason premiere didn’t leave anyone on the bench.
Unofficially, it’s Kim Burgess season!
We also see a lot of Burgess donning red again (which has become her signature color), and she definitely gives off that “second” Voight vibe.
Detective Burgess is still thriving in his new position, which is exciting in itself to see!
Filled with kidnapping, possible tension, a shady Reed, and a lot of insight into Kiana, the midseason premiere sounds like an action-packed, plot-heavy, and very entertaining affair!
