Cody Johnson’s producer Trent Willmon is clarifying comments he made about Shaboozey at the 2024 CMA Awards.
Wilmon took to social media on Saturday (November 23) to address the backlash he faced after Johnson criticized the “Bar Song (Drunk)” hitmaker during his Album of the Year acceptance speech. leather.
“Well… all I want to say in my overly shocked and excited state is how proud I am of @codyjohnson,” Wilmon wrote on Instagram. “He’s been working hard to write and perform great music for the past 15 years, and this didn’t happen overnight. I’m so proud that he’s finally getting the recognition!
The producer added, “Shout out to Shaboozey for your response to my missteps and your sense of humor and congratulations on this 17 week #1 song!”
During his CMA Awards speech, Wilmon told the Nashville crowd: “It takes a big group of people to make a great record, but I gotta tell you, it’s for this guy who’s been playing for so many years. shaboozey cowboys, y’all.”
After the comments were made, many country music fans took to social media to express confusion and anger about the remarks, which some viewed as disrespectful to Shabuze.
