Mondo Releases Beautiful Print of Classic 1981 John LandisDirector of werewolf horror film An American Werewolf in London.
The poster art was created by artist Jérôme “Trëz” Oudot, who said of the work: “I still remember the day I saw An American Werewolf in London at least 25 years ago, and that transformation scene remains the greatest for me. One of the scenes in horror movie moments!
“What I wanted to convey with this poster was that the werewolf’s first victim was David himself. That’s why I depicted the protagonist as being crushed by the beast, cowering from the pain of his transformation, But most of all, because the weight of this curse is literally shattering his existence and the world around him.
Art director Josh Manderville added: “Rick Baker’s werewolf transformation scene was a huge milestone in practical effects for horror films. Jerome’s terrifying human body Anatomical drawings provide a striking representation of David Kessler’s inner conflicts as he struggled with instability.
If you would like to purchase a print, you can order it here for $80.
The film tells the story of two American college students, David and Jack, who go backpacking in the British countryside. After ignoring local warnings to stay away from the moors, they are attacked by werewolves.
Jack is killed and David is seriously injured but survives. While David is recovering in a London hospital, he begins to experience terrifying hallucinations and is visited by the ghost of Jack, who warns him that he will transform into a werewolf on the next full moon.
The film brilliantly blended horror with dark humor and was also known for its groundbreaking special effects, particularly the werewolf transformation scene.
