Ellis Stevens went through a rough patch in season three.
When the season begins, he and his wife Fatima are newlyweds expecting their first child, but things go from bad to worse, as they usually do in FROM land .
After learning that they weren’t expecting as much as they had previously thought, Fatima still believed there was something growing inside her, and her mood swings culminated in stabbing Tilly in Season 3 Episode 7.
Ellis and his father Boyd take Fatima out of town temporarily, but what they don’t know is that Elgin has taken her to a secret underground room where he takes her due to the ghosts he’s been seeing all season placed there.
This led to Fatima’s disappearance in Season 3 Episode 9, leaving Ellis devastated.
As mentioned, it’s been quite a journey for Ellis, who not only spends the hour worrying about his missing wife, but it also sees him learn about his father’s condition for the first time.
It’s an exciting time for young Stevens, and we were lucky enough to spend some time talking about it all with the ever-charming Curt On Moore.

I wanted to go back an episode or so because we didn’t see the aftermath of Ellis’s reaction after walking into the shed and seeing Tilly dead and what happened to Fatima.
So, what do you think of his reaction afterwards? What do you think his first thought was when he walked in there?
Oh God. That was a long time ago and I’m trying to remember. I felt like I had done something about myself that could sort out the whole issue, and I remember it mostly transitioning into fight or flight. It was at that moment.
Especially after everything these two characters had been through, everything that happened to his mom, and the growing tension in the town, we immediately felt like, we have to leave, or we have to do something. Just you and me.
His first reaction in that moment was clearly panic; he was heartbroken, especially because of Tilly’s last conversation with him, which was really sweet. A sweet old lady reached out to a stranger for no apparent reason, and now there she was, dead with a pair of scissors stuck in her chest.
I think it was just an immediate panic heartbreak, but really, I think he learned a lot from Boyd, but it didn’t really matter. I want to protect my family. That’s it. So, whatever we were going to do, we had to take our backpacks, we had to go to the woods, we had to go to the shack, we had to find somewhere else to go.
But you and I are getting out of this, and that’s all that matters.
Ellis’ performance has been a little inconsistent, but I think one thing he’s done is stay patient. He is a very patient person this season.
Working on it.
I think he has. Okay, maybe you don’t agree with that, but how do you think he can have such patience? How could he keep his head above everything?
I have no idea. Look, this is a personal thing for me. I remember that for most of the season, even when they found out Fatima wasn’t pregnant, I was still clinging to the idea that Ellis was going to be the father.
Even after that, it’s not easy to come to terms with the fact that no matter where you are, you’re not going to be a father. I can only imagine that you are going to be a parent and then think that you are not going to be a parent. It’s a devastating thought.
So, honestly, I think he compartmentalized all season and didn’t absorb a lot of information. He was doing the best he could with whatever task was at hand, but I don’t think it really hit him until the very end.
Even then, I don’t think we really saw him fully embrace anything that happened this season; it was just too much. Although he has made some progress, he is still dealing with the loss of his mother.
He’s still processing everything that happened when he was stabbed, and the blood transfusions, and things are getting crazier, and everything with the food, it’s just too much. So, I think that patience just comes from a place of him trying to keep everything together.
Don’t be too reactionary; don’t be too sad. Try to speak your mind, but everyone stops. Stop it. Don’t tell me anything bad. Don’t do bad things. If you do something bad, I try to find a quick fix because we need to get this done.
I wish I could say he was more patient and forgiving, but I really don’t think he is. I honestly think he was overwhelmed and trying to make do without losing his mind.
Try to get from point A to point B every day.
It wasn’t until episode nine that Ellis learned she knew nothing about Boyd’s health. How is he handling this news internally? Is this something he can deal with immediately as everything happens, or is it something he hears and has to move on from?
No, you make a good point, is he able to handle it now.
It was at this point, when we found out there was ultrasound, that Ellis fully immersed himself in these two moments and allowed himself to retrieve these new messages because, in a way, these were two very life-changing messages.
He went through this whole thing last season when he found out he was going to be a dad. Then the ultrasound came in and for the first time they figured out what was going on.
It’s like, you can’t escape this. You’re stuck at the Sheriff’s Department. The sun was setting. Just you and your dad. Circumstances aside, it’s a wonderful time you spend with your family in this place, and he tells you something so heartbreaking. I know he was very upset at first for not telling him.
Kenny was not happy when he found out. Are you kidding me? That’s not your child. As for why Boyd keeps treating Kenny like a son, that still needs to be explored.
But, I think it’s more of another thing for Ellis to do, but at the end of the day, again, he’s focused on being there for his family and what are you going to do, really, what are you going to do?
You have to leave this town and go back to your family, that’s it.
Nothing but being angry at anyone, or being angry at your own dad for not telling you something so sad, honestly that’s probably the best situation so far because he’s dealing with the whole baby thing and the whole law Tima’s thing.
Of course, he can’t bear such a lot of pressure. I think it definitely changed our relationship and made the time between the two of them that much more precious, being able to really be there for each other, especially after going through such a shared trauma.
It will be fun to watch them grow as father and son after that.
On a scale of one to the other, how suspicious is Elgin’s Ellis in the woods in this episode, and can you tease what we’re going to see as we get to the finale?
Yo. Elgin stumbled in the woods. I remember when I first read the script, I thought, “This is really fishy.” When I saw how Nathan [D. Simmons] I was playing the game, and Elgin was interacting with me, and I was like, “What the hell is going on?”
I don’t know because we don’t have the next episode yet. So, if a guy is too suspicious, I’ll give him a mega rating. No matter what happened in the past, you are probably the most suspicious. I think he’s definitely doing something crazy, and Ellis isn’t stupid. So he’s going to go out and do something soon.
Really quick because that’s my wife.
