Matthew Gray Gubler is returning to TV!
While this means he won’t be returning to Criminal Minds, I dare say it might be for the better.
After entertaining us for so long as part of an ensemble cast, he will now headline an upcoming show on CBS, currently titled “Einstein.” The name may change, but the name recognition may work in its favor.
According to Deadline , Gubler will star in and produce the new series.
There’s a lot of good news about Einstein. It comes from Monk creator and executive producer Andy Breckman and director and executive producer Randy Zisk.
This is great news for Criminal Minds fans, who miss the fan-favorite Gubler on the small screen.
This is especially true since Criminal Minds is now on Paramount+, and there are still some people who refuse to buy it or can’t afford to stream it.
Or even better? Since Gubler is unable to return to Criminal Minds due to scheduling issues, he may have a better chance of joining if Paramount controls his schedule.
Of course, this is just pilot news, but with this talented group of people, we have no doubt it won’t wow the network brass. There was too much progress on this project to not be approved.
If we get a double whammy, my little heart will sing a sweet song!
But what was Einstein really about?
First of all, the show is adapted from a German TV series that aired from 2017 to 2019.
The series’ description reads: Felix Winterberg helps Bochum police avoid drug charges. Meanwhile, Albert Einstein’s ailing great-grandson is reluctant to help Commissioner Elena Lange.
CBS’ version of Einstein will focus on Lew Einstein, a “brilliant but directionless” tenured professor who “lived his comfortable days as a tenured professor until his bad boy antics” Landing him in legal trouble and forcing him to help the local police, the detective solves her most baffling case yet. “
Living under the weight of his great-grandfather’s name, Lou has been unable to find a path worthy of his name.
By solving murders, he might find the purpose he’s been searching for.
It’s easy for Gubler to become a genius, a trait shared by Lou and “Criminal Minds'” Spencer Reed.
Gubler doesn’t get many opportunities to use his comedic talents in Criminal Minds, but when he does, they work beautifully.
“Einstein” is a comedy, and Gubler will have the opportunity to showcase his comedic talents.
We’ve been craving more blue-sky shows, and Hollywood finally seems to be waking up to it.
Elsbeth, High Potential, and now Einstein use light-hearted banter to address the problems we need to solve rather than the life-or-death stakes of detective and victim.
We had hoped that the Monk series would land on NBCU, given that USA Network is once again ramping up scripted programming, but this is a better choice for Gubler fans.
It’s even better for Monk fans who want the same vibe, as they can watch with an antenna. Yes, people still do it!
