If you haven’t listened to Discovery yet, we can tell you right now that you’re missing out on one of the most gripping episodes currently airing.
We discuss how strong the second season is in our comprehensive, in-depth review, which ranks the series among the best of 2024.
A stellar cast, strong storytelling, and wonderful character exploration keep us glued to our screens each week, eager to unravel mysteries, missing persons, Gabby and Lacey’s backgrounds, and more.
Another exciting development is on the horizon as Found returns with its can’t-miss midseason premiere.
One component of this conspiracy is a new mysterious character introduced this season, Heather. She is a lawyer who specializes in mergers and acquisitions, both internally and externally. Fans are already buzzing about her.
If the role wasn’t exciting enough, the casting of the character was enough to pique our interest.
As long-time Station 19 fans, we’re ecstatic that Danielle Savre has landed a spot on one of our favorite series.
Just before the holidays, TV Fanatic had the pleasure of interviewing the passionate, insightful and gorgeous star via Zoom to discuss her new role.
She talks about transitioning into this role after seven years as Maya Bishop, the complexities of Heather, exploring trauma and healing through Found, and even a little fashion.
Check out our exclusive interview with Savre and a sneak peek of her introduction below!
Hello, are you OK?
Hi Jasmine. I am fine. Are you OK?
I’m great. I’m happy to talk to you. We’re huge fans of Station 19 here at TV Fanatic, and I’ve been covering the series for several years.
I saw it. Thank you for all your wonderful articles! You were one of the people who posted the “found” announcement when I booked, so thank you so much for your love and support.
certainly! On this theme, you’ve swapped out the blazing flames for a blazer and heels, which is a big change. What was it about the character of Heather that attracted you to it?
Initially, I wanted to connect with a new character. I was drawn to the fact that the character seemed ambitious and driven, which could be some similarities between her and Maya in that regard. They are ambitious people.
What’s interesting is that their ambitions can come from different places, although I’m sure most ambitions sometimes come from a place of trauma. Their trauma may be different.
But from what I read on the page, I was really attracted to the character – great writing by NK and David who wrote the actual episodes. The way they created the character intrigued me.
I’m excited about that element of it. When I auditioned for the role and put on the clothes I wore for the audition, I knew she would be funny in heels and a blazer. OMG, costume designer Veronica J, kills it.
I walked on the set and put on my big name Louboutins, and everyone saw how excited I was the other day just because I wasn’t wearing a fire suit (which I loved, but miss them now).
It’s very interesting to play a character who is so different from Maya, especially on the surface.
The wardrobe on Found is amazing. Every week I’m obsessed with new clothes and colors. There are plenty of bold colors to suit everyone. i think i saw it your imageand I was like, “Oh my gosh, she looks so good in that color!”
It’s all Veronica. She killed it.
Discovering that there are a lot of complex characters, especially women, is something I love. It also explores themes of trauma and healing. How important is it for you to be part of a series that explores these topics in depth?
You nailed it on the head.
That’s the beauty of this show. Its characters are flawed and have painful pasts who must navigate life and do their best to use their trauma to actually help save other people.
That’s what makes you cry every episode, because as you watch them heal themselves, you see them help heal others, reunite families, and help the neglected and invisible be seen and saved.
So it’s beautiful in that element and in that perspective. I love this quote from Oprah, “Let’s turn your wounds into wisdom.” This show so much represents these people with such deep-rooted wounds because they do that.
The interesting thing about Heather is that she knows how or if she is going to do this.
Is she a person who can turn wounds into wisdom? Or will she make some mistakes in the process?
Yes, [laughs]. I’m curious about Heather’s direction. I watched this episode and Heather’s introduction. I can’t wait for fans to see this. I’m really looking forward to their reaction.
[Laughs]
So will Heather interact with different characters and interact with some of each?
Yes, absolutely. Everyone in and outside the M&A community. I think being a lawyer helps her cope with everything, just like Trent being a police officer helps in a different way. But at the same time, he was on the right side of the law.
As for Heather, we wonder which side of the law she’ll be on. That’s not to say lawyers… they do follow the law. But who do they actually represent?
Do they represent good or bad? So what is the definition of “bad”?
You know, we can all defend our actions sometimes. But can these actions be defended? This will be fun.
But she played such a role that even Lacey herself wanted to be a lawyer. what does that mean? Heather is a lawyer.
These worlds collide in different ways. It will be interesting to see how Heather fits into the whole world of M&A, DCPD, and maybe even Sir.
Yes. There have been a lot of fun and interesting theories floating around about your character. Have you met any of them? Which ones make you happiest?
I found them all interesting. I love the enthusiasm of the Found audience and fans. I mean, they announced my role on the show right away. My episode hasn’t aired yet. No one has seen any of the scenes I’ve been involved in, but there are quite a few theories.
This makes me excited. I’m looking forward to seeing how fans react when the news comes out.
I was also excited because as an actor playing this character, I really didn’t know much about it at first. I was told very little.
All I know is that I love writing and acting. I came in a little blind, you know, with some of the actors that we considered. “Can I call NK? [Nkechi Okoro Carroll] And ask what do I need to know? Please tell me. Instead, I thought, “You know what? If she wanted to tell me, she would tell me.
Eventually, she told me and recounted all of Heather’s past history and where her drive and ambition came from. It’s really fun to learn, and it’s going to be exciting as this all develops and fans discover it.
I love seeing all the theories. I can’t wait to see if some of the theories might be wrong or true.
It’s been a great collaboration. You have a strong and passionate fan base yourself. Now this conflicts with the Found fan base. This is so much fun, I love it.
What is the most challenging and rewarding part of joining the cast and playing a character like Heather? Of course, don’t spoil it too much or get into trouble.
Yes. The most challenging part may be jumping onto a new show after playing a character for seven years.
I’m really excited because after playing a character for so long, you start to question yourself as an actor and ask, can I play another character? Do I know how to play a character other than Maya?
It felt good to be like, “Okay, I think someone believes I can do this.” And then taking on that challenge, and by the end, as I played her and she unfolded, it felt like I had embodied Heather in every way possible.
I think it’s a challenge because it’s fear. It is a place based on fear. I’m afraid I don’t know what I’m doing.
It felt so rewarding to know that, not to mention to be welcomed and accepted by the show’s creative staff and cast. It seems even fans are embracing the character, no matter how she develops. So it’s really rewarding to be welcomed into the Found family and the fandom.
I wanted to ask, are you new to a show with a tight cast? It can be an awkward transition after being on your own series for so long.
But it seems like everyone embraced you. Everyone rave about you! It’s a warm, wonderful environment.
It is, and absolutely so. Shanola and Nkechi set the bar very high and welcomed me with open arms. Shanora was singing when I walked in the door, and the day I bandaged, she clapped her hands and sang.
Nkechi completely embraced me and supported me on the show. I am very grateful for this experience.
Yes. I loved how it had such a lighthearted, fun setting and the cast made the show feel so heavy and serious. So I think it’s very balanced.
Well, I think the most interesting thing is that my first scene was not normal for the world of Found. Showing up on set and saying, “Okay, okay, we’re going to wear as little clothing as possible and basically be naked. The scene we’re going to do has nothing to do with that.”
It’s a tiny scene that packs so much information and sets up this great storyline. It’s fun to do, but talking about being the new kid on the block and having to do it with very little clothing, it’s like, “Hi, everyone. Nice to meet you!”
[Laughs]
It’s not nerve-wracking at all! Let’s have fun!
I’m eager to see your character’s trajectory on the show and where everything goes.
Like I said, we’re Station 19 fanatics, so a sneak peek: do you think there’s an opportunity to revisit the character or even Marina in any way?
I always say: “Never say never.” If this happens, I will be happy and so will the fans. But I also feel like I don’t want to give false hope.
It became this world, like, I know they tried. I know the producers and executives are trying to keep Station 19 going. I’d love to revisit the discussion of whether there is a world where you could allow Marina’s relationship to continue even from a legal perspective.
As we all know, the industry is stratified and who has what rights. I don’t know if this is really possible. But I do believe in never say never.
I firmly believe that if you believe in something and act on it, it can come true. I know Stefania and I will do this without hesitation.
So I think it’s not a question of waiting for us to say yes. I think it’s just a matter of obstacles that may arise. But I’m grateful for the years we’ve had.
I did these fan conventions over the summer and I’m grateful for the reach of the show and how it continues to exist now that it’s streaming on Hulu. It really means a lot to the fans and I’m grateful for the impact it continues to have on people.
So if there are no future spinoffs or the show becomes popular again, I’m grateful that it will still continue to be watched by new audiences.
Thank you for taking some time to discuss the show with me. I’m really looking forward to seeing you as Heather on Found this season and getting more out of it.
So I’m excited for you guys to see it unfold as well. I hope you like it!
