DC Studios is reportedly developing a new Batman animated film trilogy, which is said to be based on Batman: Knightfall.
The information comes from a recent addition to the EIDR system, which “provides a unique identifier for audiovisual content in the global entertainment industry.”
New documents on the EIDR system reveal that Warner Bros. is developing a new Batman animated film, including a trilogy.
DC Animated Movies were previously produced by Warner Bros. and are part of the DC Animated Movie Universe. Now, James Gunn and Peter Safran are leading animated projects and those being labeled “Tomorrow’s Universe.”
“Batman: Knightfall” was published in April 1993. The story explores Bruce Wayne’s physical and psychological limits as Batman. The story begins with the villain Bane planning to release the inmates of Arkham Asylum and create chaos in Gotham City in order to weaken Batman.
As Batman struggles to recapture the fugitive, his exhaustion reaches its breaking point. Bane exploited this weakness, confronting Batman in the Batcave and defeating him in a brutal fight that ended with Bane breaking Batman’s back.
With the fall of Bruce Wayne, the mantle of Batman is passed to Jean-Paul Vallee (Azrael), whose extreme and violent methods alienate allies like Robin and Commissioner Gordon.
Bruce eventually recovers and returns, reclaiming his role as Gotham’s protector and restoring balance to the city and his own life.
If true, this would make for a great Batman animated film trilogy.
