This year’s African American Steering Committee wants to pay attention to some of the long history, including famous creativity, craftsmen, scientists and leaders. Cutting black “You know?” this year will celebrate the invention of inventors and their everyday objects that help storytelling in movies and TV.
Alexander Myers
1838 – 1918
Alexander Miles, who contributed to the elevator industry, was a black American inventor in the late 19th century and surpassed racial barriers in the United States.
Born in Duluth, Minnesota, Miles designed an elevator that opens and closes its own doors and elevator axle doors. The door will automatically move when the elevator arrives or deviates from a given floor. Previously, the opening and closing of the shaft and elevator doors had to be manually completed by the elevator operator or passenger, which made a huge contribution to the harm of operating the elevator.
Mileage connects a soft belt into the elevator cage, which allows for the elevator shaft door to be operated at the appropriate time when the belt is in contact with the drum of the elevator shaft located above and below the floor. The elevator door itself is automated with a series of levers and rollers.
His elevator patents are still visible in modern designs, as the automatic opening and closing of elevators and elevator axle doors is a standard feature.
