A Drake lookalike contest taking place in the rapper’s hometown of Toronto got a boost from the artist himself, who made a surprise contribution of $10,000 to the prize pool.
After hearing about the themed contest, Drake—who is advertising billboardTop R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the Year — Send a direct message on Instagram to organizer Casuals Cakery, which the bakery saves and posts to its grid in the days leading up to the contest.
“I will be adding 10 more bands to a similar contest as the main prize,” Drake wrote via direct message to Casuals Cakery, who wrote back (with emojis aptly reflecting their reaction), “Please give me a minute to let I stop hyperventilating. I can’t believe this is your account and you know this, oh my god I love you.
“I can barely type, my whole body is in shock. But yes, this is real and I hope the Drake doppelgänger is ready. LETSSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOO,” the bakery wrote in the caption of his post.
The contest, which emphasizes creativity, fun and respect for Drake’s aesthetic, is called the “Drake Eras Lookalike Contest” and took place on Saturday (December 14) at Apt 200 in Toronto. Before Drake brokered the deal, the original winner’s loot included a “certified Toronto Manz bag” that included a bottle of Hennessy, a pack of Backwoods and unidentified “other prizes.”
The host posted a variety of videos on Instagram, including game clips of Drake contestants/winners as well as tons of photos from Saturday night.
Drake confirmed his involvement by sharing some of the clips via Instagram Stories. “I love this city,” he commented, along with four dumbfounding emojis.
