Spice Girls member Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton has opened stunning Christmas gifts for fans around the world. Over the weekend, the singer debuted a new version of the band’s 1996 holiday ballad “2Become1,” in which she transforms the airy R&B original into a dramatic technicolor ballad, complete with coherent strings.
The revamp features only Bunton’s voice, and she’s backed by the Budapest Sound Orchestra, which adds an extra layer of Christmas cheer to her lilting, dreamy vocals. “I need some love like I’ve never needed love before/I had a little love and now I’m back for more/
Set your spirit free/That’s the only way out,” Bunton sings in the chorus, in a warm, Olivia Newton-John-like voice.
In the film, Bunton is mesmerized by the orchestra’s majestic backdrop as the singer performs in the string section in a festival-appropriate red off-the-shoulder mini dress. On Instagram, Bunton wrote about her joy at reimagining the beloved Spice Girl standard.
“Earlier this year I had the amazing opportunity to record one of my favorite Spice Girls singles “2Become1” with the incredible @budapestscoring Orchestra! ” she said. “Hearing this song performed by such a talented orchestra gave me goosebumps – it was truly a magical experience.”
In a second post with a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot, Bunton added, “Performing with the @budapestscoring orchestra and watching them perform ‘2Become1’ was an amazing experience ✨ I had goosebumps all day long! Thanks to everyone there Makes this all so special.
