Which song fits your current vibe? Facebook is hoping to make it easier to spark conversations about music and more with a new profile feature it launched earlier this month during a Facebook IRL event during Austin’s city restrictions.
The social media giant turned Fair Market in Austin, Texas, into a real-life Facebook account with different stations representing profile features, including a Hi-Fi music lounge featuring Taylor Swift Swift, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus and other recording stars. The event also includes live performances.
“No matter what you’re into, there are people on Facebook who can help you find and do more of it,” Facebook head Tom Alison explained during Facebook IRL. “Our vision is to make it easier for people to discover this content and these people. Ultimately, that’s what Facebook is about. For years, we’ve been helping people explore their interests and discover new things.
“Facebook is building the best technology to help you discover content and connections that are right for you,” he continued. “We’ve made significant investments in building state-of-the-art artificial intelligence systems that deliver the most interesting content to people around the world.”
New features include the Local tab, which collects content from Reels, Marketplaces, Groups and Events on Facebook and Facebook Explore, giving you a deeper understanding of your interests.
“It’s personalized based on your broad interests, allowing you to learn and do more with those interests,” Allison said of Facebook Local. “Explore is unique in that it provides a recommendation algorithm that is less focused on entertainment content and more focused on finding real, useful content that will be useful to you.”
Facebook Local is currently in testing in Austin, New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, Phoenix, and San Francisco.
Another new feature, Messenger Communities, gives communities a new way to “connect through shared interests and topic-based chats,” the company said.
Other new features include an upgraded full-screen video tab that puts Reels in a more prominent position, posts with AI comment summaries so you can read them instead of scrolling, and Matchmaker, a new Facebook dating feature that lets you Allow your friends to “swipe for potential matches on your behalf.”
Alison points out that with Facebook’s weekly and weekend events roundup feature, you can find the best concerts, festivals, and other events in your area and share them with your Facebook friends or groups, “so you can find things to do together.” People who go”.
The company is also adding music and mentions to Notes in Messenger, as well as a new feature that lets you invite Instagram followers to events you create on Facebook — whether or not they have a Facebook account.
Facebook’s new profile feature was announced ahead of the Oct. 15 release of the Meta Quest S3 ($299).
