2023 Pierce Brosnan Cars Quick Charlie There are stars on the front lines. His character “Charlie” hits a rough patch in his career as a hitman/enforcer in the fall when an attack goes wrong.
This Richard Wenk/Victor Ghisler script, directed by Philip Noyce, is a rewrite of nearly every slasher movie. The killer who loves classical music and is a gourmet chef has become almost a trope these days. Quick Charlie The action is good enough, but let down by too many clichés.
story
Charlie takes care of his boss Stan. He has to try out a new guy for his latest hit, but something goes wrong. The rest of the film sees Charlie and the hot-hot messed up ex trying to survive. Meanwhile, aggrieved clients wipe out Charlie’s “family.”
main actors
Pierce Brosnan stars as Charlie Swift, a former Marine and elderly killer.
Morena Baccarin as Marcie Kramer: brilliant taxidermist and ex-wife of that terrible show; Rollo.
James Caan plays Stan Mullen. Head of family with dementia.
Gbenga Akinnagbe is a beggar. A gang leader who wants to eradicate the Mullen family with extreme prejudice.
forced
The partnership between Marcy and Charlie feels contrived and forced. It’s not easy to promote May/December romance. Baccarin and Brosnan do what they do best; act. But the script let them down.
Quick Charlie Never moves smoothly. It’s unstable and takes too much time to make copies of copies. It’s hard to find original moments in movies. These two stars deserve better.
Surprisingly it still works
The plot still works, somewhat surprisingly, and the film is a joy to watch. Marcy fixing up junior killer “Donut” aka Blade (Brennan Kiel Cook) is fun and works well.
It was great to see a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from Sharon Grice as Mavis. She is her all time favorite cagney and lacey until her day burn notice Plays Michael’s mother.
Overall, the movie is fun but doesn’t have any heart to it.
judgment
Definitely a three star here. Nothing too original except for the taxidermy angle. However, Brosnan could have been critical of his performance. This was James Caan’s final film, and according to IMDb, he required oxygen and was in a wheelchair while working.
Quick Charlie Available to watch on Hulu and other streaming platforms.
