Good news for all the small town murderers out there!
Small Town detectives will continue to air the case on Fox. The procedural drama starring Kristen Kreuk has been renewed for a second season.
The eight-episode freshman season aired online in November.
Brooke Bowman, executive vice president of drama programming and development, said in a statement: “We look forward to bringing fans Carl Ahlberg’s unparalleled expertise as a crime-solving expert in Season 2 of Small Town.
“We are with [producers] Sepia and Future Shack and our talented cast and crew can’t wait to see what happens to our characters next season.
There are not many murders in small towns
“Small Town” averaged 3.2 million viewers and a 0.24 rating among adults 18-49 (when factoring in a week’s worth of DVRs).
While those numbers usually spell doom, the show’s price tag pales in comparison to other Fox shows like the canceled “9-1-1: Lone Star.”
Plus, Small Town Murders is a co-production, so there’s every reason to believe a deal can be struck to keep it intact in another film.
We have to hand it to Crook. She hosted some of the lowest-rated shows on broadcast television, but they were always renewed because they made financial sense.
Small Town Murders, also starring Rossif Sutherland as Carl Ahlberg, follows a police officer who moves to a small town and catches the attention of librarian Cassandra Lee.
The show was adapted from LR Wright’s novel and has managed to attract a small but very passionate fanbase.

The 2025-2026 TV season is taking shape
We discussed the renewal of Small Town in a Fox memo earlier this week, but the network has limited scheduling space for next season.
Broadcast networks have been slower to update this season.
“Murder in the Town” joins “Universal Basic Guys,” “Matlock” and “St. Denis” as renewals on the broadcast slate for 2025-26.
Further decisions will be made in due course.
