The incredible thing happened in the first episode of the third season. Boyd and Chen Tian were ambushed by hellish monsters that haunted the streets of the town.
Then we lost Tianchen, one of the OG townspeople. She is a familiar and comforting presence in the town and is well-liked by everyone she meets.
It was a shocking and devastating loss for the town, but most importantly her son Kenny, who was in the woods the night she died and had to come back to listen to the news and quickly make Prepare to bury another parent in that never-ending nightmare.
We spoke to the show’s star, Ricky Ho, who plays the kind-hearted but often conflicted Kenny Liu on the hit series.
Following the events of FROM Season 3 Episode 2, the affable had a lot to discuss with us and we had a great chat, delving into the characters and looking ahead to what we might see in the season content.

First of all, your performance in episode two was outstanding. I think I cried no less than five times during the whole thing. It was so touching and you did a great job. I just want to tell you this.
Thank you so much.
You’re welcome. Can you tell me the emotion you felt when you found out that this was the story, that Kenny was going to lose his mother?
Yeah, the initial reaction, I posted on Instagram a couple days ago my initial reaction after reading this episode was, like, I was a puddle.
I was just a mess and there were so many descriptions that I had to get up and go for a walk outside; it was just too much.
Part of you thinks about everything that happened in season one and everything that happened to Kenny in season two, and you’re like, “Yeah, they’re not going to be with him anymore. That’s it, he’s fine, He’ll be fine.
And then, lo and behold, they were like, “Yeah, we’re going to take your mom, too.” That’s a lot.
Obviously without spoilers or anything like that, where does Kenny go from here? What’s his next step in processing and processing all of this?
Well, I think he had to make a choice, whether it was consciously or subconsciously, and that was, for the longest time, even in season two, I thought, “Okay, I think we’re entering Kenny’s era of villains. .I guess he’s about to really start losing it.
But alas, he stepped up and is a better person than I thought. I think now, with what happened to Tianchen, he is back at the crossroads of making a choice.
He can either become a threat and completely transform into a monster like the town’s monster, or he can take on the role of the town’s caretaker, honor his mother’s spirit, and be the one who makes sure everyone’s needs are met.
I think we’ll see this option soon.
I guess you could say he had a wicked little sense of humor when he wanted to go to the tunnels and was ready to do anything out of grief. But Boyd is right there with him, and I love the dynamic between Boyd and Kenny. It has truly stood the test of time.
How would you describe that relationship, how it’s evolved, and where we’ll see it continue moving forward?
Yeah, I think Boyd and Kenny’s relationship is just like in real life – it’s a very complicated relationship. There was so much to say between them.
There was too much heartbreak and betrayal on Boyd’s part for Kenny to get back to where they were in season one.
But at the same time, at the end of the day, this is the person I can always count on. Because, especially now, he is my everything.
I’m grateful that in real life, Harold Perrineau was really a mentor and certainly a bit of a father figure to me in my career and just someone that I could lean on really, really well. friend, I could feel how comfortable it was to play that dynamic on screen with him.
Another person who has a history with Kenny, if you want to say that, is Kristy, who is constantly by his side during this hour. What can you tell us about this relationship?
I think, in classic nice guy fashion, Kenny is very understanding and respectful of boundaries and doesn’t even try to force the relationship at all.
I think there’s an understanding now that there’s love here and there always will be love here, but it might be a platonic love, like, “I’ll always have your back no matter what, and vice versa.”
“But the person you actually chose outside the city is already in the city. I have to respect that and respect that.
I have no idea. It could always change, it could always change, but for now, he just wanted to make sure he respected Christie and Mariel.
What’s something that you feel you’ve learned about Kenny from season one to now that you might not have known when you first started playing him?
I realized a few things, the first being that he was a better person than I could have ever hoped or aspired to be.
He will always strive to do the right thing and be the earnest, conscientious and righteous person his parents expect him to be.
And, he did have a huge wave of anger brewing inside him, and he had the power to do it. I think it was something he checked out because especially after what happened between him and Sara outside the restaurant.
It was never written, but as an acting choice, I think after that moment I would have imagined him having a conversation with Tianchen, because that’s not the kind of person his mother raised.
I think Tianchen would have talked to him, “You can never lose your temper in front of people like this again, don’t do this,” you know what I mean?
“That’s not you.” So, that’s something he checks in on a lot, and I think now that Tianchen is gone, he’ll try to handle it on his own.
Kenny and Jim teaming up into the woods in the premiere isn’t a pairing we’ve always seen from Kenny.
I would love to see the return of the Kenny and Jade pairing because that would be so much fun.
I love hanging out with Dave; he’s fun. Moreover, Jade was so deeply rooted in the mystery of the town that I felt like I wanted to be deeply rooted in the mystery of the town as well.
If he’s going out to solve crimes and thinks it’s a simulation and he thinks it’s a game, I want to be there for all the hijinks.
Can you tease Season 3 in one sentence?
One word? If I could describe it in one word, I would just say suit.
Suit. Do you like suits? Suit?
Yes. what does that mean?
what does that mean? I guess we’ll have to see, right?
I guess we have to find out.
