The holidays aren’t for everyone.
Georgie and Mandy’s Marriage Season 1 Episode 5 reminds us that it can be hard to express gratitude when you’ve just lost someone.
This is one of the saddest Thanksgiving events ever. It has some funny moments, but overall it’s heartbreaking.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 5 revolves around Mary’s holiday difficulties
George expected a heated argument on Thanksgiving because he wanted to spend Thanksgiving with Mary since it was Mary’s first Thanksgiving since George Sr.’s death.
This could have been an interesting setup, but it didn’t happen.
Instead, Audrey quickly acquiesces, showing that she’s not completely devoid of empathy, but Mary doesn’t want to attend Thanksgiving dinner, and Missy only wants to attend if she has a tattoo.
While there were some funny lines here and there, the episode was sad and didn’t quite feel like Thanksgiving overall.
I know how hard the holidays can be for some people and appreciate that Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 5 addresses this issue. I watch comedies to laugh and escape from harsh realities. , rather than focusing on them.
The saddest scene is when Mary declares that she can’t do it after all.
Her anger was sparked when the McAllisters argued about how much Jim had been drinking. It reminded her of the same fight she and George Sr. had had over Thanksgiving.
When she finally agreed to go to the McAllisters’ for Thanksgiving, I knew something similar was going to happen, but I wasn’t prepared for how emotional it would be.
Mary’s heartbreak is so raw and painful that it feels more like a plot point in an evening drama than a comedy.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 5 would have been the perfect place for a Sheldon cameo
George and Mandy’s first marriage needed to stand on its own as the first Big Bang Theory spinoff not centered around Sheldon, so I understand why they left him out of Thanksgiving.
Maybe Ian Armitage is busy.
Still, Sheldon’s cameo here is hilarious.
He and Connor are similar but also very different, and Sheldon’s reaction to Connor playing the accordion and wearing a suit for Thanksgiving would be hilarious.
The holidays were the only time Sheldon visited. He goes to school in California so shouldn’t be there at other times.
I also understand Mary’s sadness, but I think she will be doubly clingy, overprotective, and do whatever it takes to convince her dear Shelley to come home for Thanksgiving.
It’s also weird that Mandy jokes about taking Georgie on a plane to California because he insists only California men use hand cream, considering Sheldon is there right now.
So far, Sheldon has not become a sibling to Chuck Cunningham, who disappears into the void and is never mentioned again, as if he never existed.
However, except for Missy pointing out that Sheldon won’t be home for the holidays, this episode was pretty close
Dale was a bright spot in a less-than-stellar holiday episode
I’ve been wondering since Young Sheldon ended if Meemo was still with Dale, so I’m glad he’s back.
Much of Dale’s humor comes from his ignorance, and always has.
He saved the “Young Sheldon” finale from being depressing because he couldn’t find a seat in “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage” season 1, episode 5 that wasn’t occupied by someone else. Meemaw and Mandy’s conversation was peppered with interjections.
Meemaw: And what about my little great-granddaughter? Is she still saying “Meemaw”?
Mandy: No.
Dale: Better enjoy it. My son doesn’t even talk to me.
Meemaw: Why bring this up?
Dale: It’s called a conversation.
I’m curious how long Meemaw and Dale will last, but I’m glad they’re still together now, even if Meemaw is annoyed by Dale’s lack of social awareness.
Mimo’s irritation, though, seemed more of a, “Ugh, guys,” rather than annoyance. It was Dale’s bizarre comments that confused her the most.
This must bode well for their relationship.
Let’s talk about Georgie’s ending. & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 5
I love holiday episodes because no matter how dark things get, they usually have a happy ending.
But not this one.
Missy, Mary and George went to the cemetery and had a picnic there to spend time with George Sr.
I agree with Missy’s sarcastic comment about the creepiness factor. I know they miss George, but having a picnic in a cemetery is a bit much.
Look, I only have one rule for Thanksgiving episodes.
It needs to end with people being grateful for what they have and the family and love around them.
I know this is a difficult task in difficult times, not all families get along, and Thanksgiving itself is a difficult holiday for people of Native American heritage because of the treatment of native peoples by white settlers way.
Still, if a comedy is going to have a Thanksgiving episode, it better give me warm, fuzzy feelings, regardless of whether there’s any real-life reason to celebrate, and “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage” The fifth episode of Season 1 failed to do that.
Over to you, George and Mandy fanatics.
