After five long months, Ghosts returns with its much-anticipated Season 4 premiere, and it was certainly worth the wait! Last time we checked in at the Woodstone Bed and Breakfast, Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) fell out Love, leaves poor Nigel (John Hartman) at the altar, just to be quick fall into One Puritan ghost named Patience (Mary Holland) is particularly distraught and vengeful.
Season 4 Episode 1 (“Patience”) begins with a clever, brief flashback that provides depth to the latest ghost. While Patience clearly didn’t have many friends while living in the dirt, she doesn’t seem to have many friends in her life either. In fact, the Puritans expelled her for her extreme piety (yes, she was extreme even for the Puritans). Far from the hippie puritanical persona one would expect from a show like this, Patience is instead a rigid, humorless spirit that seems destined to struggle to fit in with anything remotely modern – a hallmark of the show’s comedy and An obvious setting for an iconic fusion of cultures clashing.

The episode also masterfully accomplished the tricky task of revealing the compassionate nuances of Patience’s character. While she may appear vindictive at first, her real motivation for kidnapping Isaac and Sass (Roman Zaragoza) is surprisingly simple: She longs for a small group of friends with whom she can spend eternity. When her attempts at contact don’t go as planned, she quickly returns her captor, emphasizing her desire to belong rather than malice. Meanwhile, Isaac’s internal struggle deepens, as he feels guilty for betraying his patience 130 years ago, compounded by his recent failure to leave Nigel at the altar. This allows the show to explore more emotional territory, touching on themes of fear, shame and acceptance, while maintaining a balance of authenticity and light-heartedness. As always, the cast’s signature banter – whether it’s trivial gossip or deeper debates about morality and friendship – strikes the perfect balance between comedy and heart.

Rating: 9.2/10 – The new season is filled with the same biting humor, lovable characters and charming absurdity that made Ghost stand out from the first episode. The stakes are always relatively small, but the emotional depth and quirkiness keep it as entertaining as ever.
