As expected, the film’s stars Cynthia Erivo (playing Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (playing Galinda/Glinda) were both nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and Best Actress in a Comedy. evil Also nominated for film and box office achievement in its second year in the category. BarbieThe film is the highest-grossing film of 2023 and won the inaugural award last year. The Universal film, released on November 22, 2024, has the highest opening of any musical adaptation, with an estimated domestic box office of $114 million. (Grande and Erivo, despite unsubstantiated rumors online, were paid equally for their starring roles.)
Despite strong performances in the acting categories, Chu and the film’s screenwriter were left out of the director and screenwriter categories. evilIts soundtrack debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 last week, but because the film only used songs from the original musical, it was not eligible for any music categories. Zhu recently said that the second part will include two new songs. The director said he couldn’t reveal any information about the songs just yet, but noted that they were “fantastic.”
evil The untold story of the Witches of Oz. This movie and the upcoming Evil: Part 2 The show, which will be released in November 2025, is based on the 2003 musical of the same name, which was originally adapted from the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire. Winnie Holzman, who wrote the stage play, wrote the script for Chu’s film along with Dana Fox. Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz returns to the cast to bring this musical to the screen. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth originated the roles of Elphaba and Glinda on Broadway and guest star in the film.
Golden Globes producer Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge Enterprise, which also owns hollywood reporter.
