Despite having one of the worst series finales in television history, “Dragon” is still widely regarded as one of the best series of the past 20 years.
Michael C. Hall won praise for his compelling performance as the titular serial killer, carving out a niche for Showtime at a time when premium cable networks need a hit series that can take the world by storm. New world.
When the show premiered in 2006, the television market was different.
Thanks to the current trend of converting any reasonably successful property into a franchise, what was once a diamond in the rough has been squeezed out. At least two more shows are coming.
Dexter: The New Blood was a perfect opportunity to write about what went wrong in Dexter’s 2013 series finale, but it was undermined by the equally divided family of Dexter’s son Harrison, who seemed Ending his life forever.
As Dexter: Original Sin already revealed, Dexter survived the assassination attempt and is destined to kill again when he takes center stage in the present-day sequel, Dexter: Resurrection.
Of course, there are still a lot of unanswered questions as to whether the fourth entry in the series will have a story to tell, because, let’s face it, there isn’t much to tell at this stage.
Dexter: No need for new blood
Bloodstained follows the story of the battered serial killer as he struggles to come to terms with the decisions he made at the end of Bloodstained season 8, which ultimately led to him going on the run.
Now that so much time has passed, Paramount+, Showtime and the showrunners believe die-hard fans will be waiting with bated breath for more.
However, given the lackluster response to Sins thus far, it’s hard to believe there’s much interest in any future installments in the series.
That’s not to say “Crimson” is being ignored by audiences, as Paramount+ and Showtime have been talking about how well it’s doing.
This isn’t the first show to not be well-received but to have ratings that exceeded expectations.
That said, Sins has some redeeming qualities, as it features many fan-favorite characters from long before their deaths in the original series.
It’s a bit of a stretch to say there’s a lot of story to be mined here, since we’ve spent a lot of time in Dexter’s past before. His upbringing haunts him to the point where he has to deal with it years later or he will lose himself completely.
As it stands, Sins is okay because it’s set in the past, but I firmly believe the series has nothing to say about present-day storylines.
Dexter: Resurrection is destined to be a disappointment
The recent casting announcement for Resurrection that David Zayas, Jack Alcott, and James Remar will be taking on series regular roles doesn’t faze me either.
Harrelson isn’t the worst character in the series, but after Dexter: New Bloods , what else can he do in the series? At one point, I was hesitant about the idea of Alcott leading a follow-up to Dexter: The New Blood , about him living in a world without Dexter.
That show would be a more logical direction for the series now that Dexter is still alive.
We also have a second prequel series, with John Lithgow’s Trinity taking center stage.
John was revealed as a serial killer in an unparalleled turn as Dexter, but in my opinion, that might have been worth it a decade ago, when the whole world was talking about this show.
I may be proven wrong later this year, but for now, the Doctor Who series is deep in its bones and poised to continue losing relevance as Paramount+ and Showtime throw everything over the wall on and see what sticks.
What do you think, Dexter fanatics?
