Horizon: An American Legend It would be better on TV. Kevin Costner’s illegitimate son was terrible on the big screen. He directed and co-wrote the film, and it appears he wants to keep the project moving slowly.
Too slow.
I’m very disappointed with this western attempt. Anyone who has read my reviews knows that I love westerns. This saga fits perfectly into the old “mini-series” format. 3 hours and 1 minute of plodding was nothing short of torture.
It definitely felt like it took a lot longer.
story
The saga seems to be following the American West and its ever-increasing expansion.
main cast
Kevin Costner stars as Hayes Allison. The man clearly intertwined his story with others in the film.
Sienna Miller stars as Frances Kittridge.
Rest of the cast
While it’s not “thousands of actors,” there are enough names to make this “look” like a winning combination of talent and story.
From Michael Rooker to Danny Huston to Luke Wilson Horizon: An American Legend There are many quality actors. Sadly, this doesn’t help the film’s progress.
Jeff Fahey has little to do as the tracker, as does Will Patton. However, it was great to meet Isabel Foreman. orphan She manages to make the most of her almost cameo role.
why it doesn’t work
Like Wyatt Earp (Costner’s version of the legendary lawman), the pacing is too slow. Moments that are supposed to be suspenseful just become boring. Everything requires a lot of screen time.
The film moves like molasses in the winter and takes a long time to finish any one vignette. Each story in this overlong saga meanders along at a snail’s pace. There’s a good story here, but it takes a long time to get any informative or entertainment value.
It would have been much better if he had decided to use the “lonely dove” approach. Allows for mini-series in slower formats. Each week the audience slowly gets to know each character.
Costner lets himself down here. The languid pace with which he tells the story robs him of any interest in the saga. This, coupled with his reliance on a certain amount of Western stereotypes, dooms the film. The second chapter of the saga will be revealed in November 2024.
judgment
Horizon: An American Saga, Chapter One Earned a measly 3 stars out of 5. It’s playing on Max. Be prepared to take a break as the film plods along.
*Somewhat surprisingly, IMDb gives this a 6.8 rating.
