2023 Suspense/Comedy glass house It’s literally a black comedy about murder. This movie is a lot of fun and pays homage to all things Scooby-Doo.
I love movies made by people who love movies. Tarantino, Rodriguez and now writer and director LaMarcus glass house. The film has many new favorites, including the cast and, of course, Marcus. You have to love someone who sneaks into the old William Scream.
story
Jamie is having a bachelorette party with three of her best friends. A few guests showed up, but they weren’t on her list. Things quickly deteriorate after one of them is killed.
Cast
Harry Bronwyn plays Jamie.
Nicole Clifford plays Bianca.
Jerry Courtney Austin stars as Evie.
Alison Ayers is Drew.
Justin Michael Terry plays Charlie.
Jon Helbrecht plays Pete.
Travis Laughlin plays Alex.
Lizette Benre plays Maria.
what works
Every time The Gang goes to investigate another mysterious incident, they set out in Scooby-Doo formation. To clarify: In the cartoon mystery series, the group has four members. Plus Scooby-Doo, there are five.
Watch the four girls and Charlie huddle together in horror as they head towards the horrific event. Once I get this image in my head, glass house took off.
*Of course without Scooby snacks, I could never figure out whether Charlie was Scooby or Fred.
But there’s a lot more to the film’s success than homage or allusion. The cast is nearly perfect. As I said at the beginning of this review, three new favorites deserve attention on my list right now. Besides Marcus, here are the other two.
Nicole Clifford
The actor does an excellent job portraying the crazy, drug-addled character of Bianca. She does this seemingly effortlessly. Thank you for coming up with a character who is “more than”. It may have been a two-dimensional performance, but Clifford nailed it. *Of course, the script is also worthy of praise.
Clifford shines here, so keep an eye out for that.
justin michael terry
The actor jumps into Clay Crawford/Anthony Lemke territory here. *Crawford is famous for the TV version of Lethal Weapon, while Lemke came to my attention for the Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Muley-Siffy series Dark Matter. (A great show.) *Terry exudes the same natural delivery of “oh shit” that made him nearly steal the entire glass house.
It’s great that he wants to be a Jack Kerouac type character, and Terry fills his role’s shoes with ease.
This guy is good. Another point to note.
What’s the use? 2
There are a lot of nods and winks. Like I said before, you can tell Marcus loves movies. Or maybe just celluloid in general. The addition of TV drama to the storyline is fun and exciting.
feeling glass house From pure suspense stories, to ghost stories, to comedy. All of this is captured with aplomb by cinematographer Ryan Broomberg and pieced together almost perfectly by editor Rich Varville.
The practical FX are very good. Nothing was hindered or shaken in any way. Thanks to special effects makeup artist Andy Harvey for this achievement.
Despite the majesty of the Glass House setting, the scenes in the film are almost claustrophobic for the most part. This works because each of these focuses more on group dynamics than the actual environment. The setting itself is almost another, more elusive character in the story.
a small complaint
magic gun.
Alex’s .38 Special rifle that he fired repeatedly without reloading. The weapon can carry six rounds of ammunition. There’s obviously more to Alex’s work.
Judgment
glass house Earns 4.5 out of 5 stars here. The movie lost half a star because not everyone was convincing in their characters and there seemed to be some plot holes.
but.
There are enough twists and turns to make for an overall viewing experience glass house Fun and entertaining. After all, this is an award-winning film. The film will be released on Amazon on December 17.
2024 is coming to an end and it’s interesting that most of the movies I’ve seen recently are of such a high caliber. This is another top product that I was pleasantly surprised to find so great. Viewed December 17th.
