The battle for bragging rights between the East and West coasts will take place at the ballpark as the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers square off in the 2024 World Series.
Major League Baseball announced Friday (October 25) that the league has hired two rap legends to represent their shores, with Bronx native Fat Joe and lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan Ice Cube set to play in Game 2 and Show before Game 3.
Cooper will take the mound first before Game 2 on Saturday night (October 26), warming up the Dodgers faithful with “It Was A Good Day” and “Bow Down.”
Fat Joe will take the field in Game 3 on Monday, and Joey Clark will create an “Empire State of Mind” at Yankee Stadium with a custom rendition of “New York” and “All the Way Up.”
“Both stars are lifelong fans of their hometown teams and are excited for the opportunity to prepare fans for this year’s World Series,” MLB said in a statement. “The performance will feature the national anthem each night. will be played later and will be broadcast on Fox Sports’ exclusive pre-game coverage.”
Major League Baseball continues to focus on music history in New York and Los Angeles. The league celebrates the pair’s iconic music cities with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” and 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s “California Love” as the soundtrack to the MLB “Empire” World Series. Launched a 30-second video spot featuring Yankees and Dodgers including Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani Starring stars.
Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for Friday night (October 25), pitting the Yankees and Dodgers in a highly anticipated series for the MLB championship. This is the Yankees’ first World Series appearance since 2009 as the New York Yankees look to end their World Series drought. As for Los Angeles, the Dodgers won the championship in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened season.
