I’m so excited for the release of IF in 2024 imaginaryanother 2024 product. What a disappointment. IF’s “evil twins” don’t stand up to scrutiny and fall flat on the “horror” side of this fictional friend story.
story
Cartoonist Jessica moved back to her hometown. She was joined by her husband and two daughters from a previous marriage. His daughters have yet to overcome their initial resistance to their stepmother, and the small family is in trouble within itself.
Meanwhile, the youngest girl; Alice, makes a new friend.
main actors
DeWanda Wise plays Jessica, a cartoonist and new stepmother.
Taegen Burns plays Taylor, the overly aggressive eldest daughter.
Pyper Braun is the youngest stepson. She is the elegant “Minnie Me” in Jessica’s mind. Imagination is rich and active.
Tom Payne plays Max. Husband of Jessica and father of two girls.
Best guest appearance award goes to
Betty Buckley is Gloria. Sorry, metaphorical drum roll. I’ve been a fan of Carrie since the original 1976 film.
behind the scenes
Director and co-writer Jeff Wadlow tries too hard early on. *Don’t get me wrong. I’m a fan of Wadlow. although Kick-Ass 2for me, was a disappointment, I loved true memoirs of an international assassin. Oddly, IMDb gave KA2 a 6.5 rating, while TMIA only gave it a 5.9 rating. Think about it.
Co-author Yu imaginary: Greg Erb and Jason Oremland seem to be the culprits of “too many cooks” syndrome. Something I’ve mentioned in other reviews. The trio put so much effort into the movie. Each element works against the other.
It resulted in a confusion of themes that never really came to fruition or tangible cohesion.
Cue Coraline?
imaginary Possibly a hint of a superior imaginary world Coraline. The latter film, despite having an interesting premise, is pretty terrible in all the right places. It also benefits from a complete lack of signage. Wadlow’s efforts here make every plot twist come a mile away.
Still, there’s a pretty satisfying jump scare. I won’t mention where it appears. You’ll find it yourself, and it’s a goosebump-inducing moment.
judgment
imaginary The work is too hard. It loses a lot, and to be fair, the casting leaves a lot to be desired. There’s no real chemistry between any of the actors. Everyone seems focused on their own characters rather than interacting believably with their on-screen counterparts.
This is a 2.5 out of 5 star rating. Come on Blumhouse. Sort yourself out. imaginary Now streaming on Starz.
