2024 friends movie demagogue Has advantages. Strip away the trappings of the movie and it’s just a buddy movie. But the “edge” is the director.

We can forgive Liman for his ill-advised retelling of Roadhouse. Why? Because he made Borders of Tomorrow superlative. A movie with the tagline “Life, Death, Repeat”, this is perhaps my favorite movie of all time.
He once again proved his superiority demagogue.
story
With the big-mouthed Scalvo in the organization, Bessegay and Dechio don’t have anyone to complete their big assignments. Kobe and Rory are dragged into a robbery by Big Mouth to save face.
Something went terribly wrong at work.
Big Mouth was beaten, and the two “newbies” had no choice but to run for their lives. Rory’s psychiatrist also went along.
main actors
Matt Damon plays Rory. A Marine with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and his life in shambles.
Casey Affleck plays Kobe. Alcoholic and with a criminal record.
Michael Stuhlbarg plays Mr. Bessage. He is the leader of this criminal organization.
Alfred Molina plays Richie Dechio, Bessage’s assistant.
Hongzhou is Dr. Rivers, Rory’s psychiatrist.
Ron Perlman serves as Mayor of Miceli. It gets bent over time.
Toby Jones is Micheli’s right-hand man.
Ving Rhames plays the unnamed Terminator cop: Toomey.
why this works
No one likes anyone. Each character irritates the other characters. From the mayor to Scalvo (Jack Harlow), everyone in this story distrusts and deeply dislikes their colleagues.
Affleck co-wrote the book with Chuck MacLean, and his insanely verbal con man is the glue that holds the book together. There are two different levels of criminals here. Politicians and armed robbers.
Every character is memorable. A psychiatrist insisted her car be written off completely for insurance purposes. A fire chief who clearly has anger management issues. When it comes time for a shootout, the cops breed like crazy rabbits.
Rory, the veterinarian, is pedantic to the extreme. Kobe problem everything Micheli wants to kill everyone.
The same goes for Bessage.
This is a buddy movie
like strange coupleor like the equally quirky and fun Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, demagogue It’s all about odd pairings and snarky delivery. This might be the lead for my favorite movies of 2024.
judgment
This is a solid five-star comedy. Liman shines here with a great script and a near-perfect cast. The show is streaming on Apple+.
