“Survival depends on adaptability. The mind can push the body to the limit in the name of survival, but at what cost?
Tonight’s episode smart mind A little crazy. Five girls from the same school appear to be pregnant – yes, at the same time. You might think this is some kind of “pregnancy deal” they decided on together, but no, that’s not the case here. Why? Because neither of them are actually pregnant. They just think they are.
When Sarah came in for an ultrasound, the sonographer asked Carol and Oliver to come in and observe. Oliver has every reason to be confused and doesn’t know why he’s being observed, until he discovers that there’s actually no baby. Now here’s where things get a little weird for me: Sarah’s body is actually reacting in a way that makes her believe she’s pregnant. She appeared to be in her second trimester, with hormones making her feel like her body was “preparing for baby.” After her ordination, she was met by four other girls who screamed with excitement that their future happiness would never come.

Now, why would their school let them down so much that they convince themselves they are pregnant without… the usual activities required to create this reality? This was the only thing I kept thinking throughout the entire episode, but then again, the mind is such a complicated thing and I couldn’t stand it against these young girls; there must be something going on.

Oliver and his team took (Mandy Moore’s performance of “Candy” in this scene is pure nostalgic joy for me, so thank you!)’s goal was to find out what happened to the girls and whether the reason they both believed they were pregnant might be due to a shared traumatic event. We find out that the girls found “WitchTok” and cast a spell to make them all pregnant. Please imagine that I broke the fourth wall when I heard this sentence. It gets even better; the reason they came to WitchTok and tried to get pregnant was because their friend Samantha actually got pregnant and had to leave school, thus being separated from the group. They didn’t want her to feel alone, so they cast a spell to get her pregnant. Remember when I said Sarah’s body reactions led her to believe she was pregnant? Well, since she was the one closest to Samantha, losing her friend hit her even harder, and that stress led to a false pregnancy: a fake pregnancy.

I really enjoyed this episode because I learned more about Oliver’s father. so far(Granted I may have missed something) I thought his father was dead. Tonight’s events lead me to believe that he may have been disoriented. Through Oliver’s flashbacks, we learn that while he was camping in the woods, his father went missing, leaving Oliver to fend for himself. As time passes, Oliver becomes increasingly worried, but remains where he is hoping his father will come back for him. It wasn’t until a police officer found him that he realized his father was gone. That was the last time Oliver saw his father, and it broke my heart. No wonder he cares so much about his patients. I hope he can do something for himself in time to make himself happy instead of hiding behind work.
