While fans of the musician were quick to suggest that this might result in new Jane’s Addiction material without Farrell’s involvement, some comparisons have also been drawn to the short-lived Deconstruction project from the early ’90s.
Deconstruction was launched in 1993 after Jane’s Addiction first broke up and included Navarro and Avery as well as drummer Michael Murphy. Perkins was initially invited to participate, but ultimately opted to join Farrell’s pornographic film Pyro.
Deconstruction released their self-titled debut album in 1994, which peaked at number 31 in 1994. advertising billboard The Heatseekers album hit the charts before quietly disbanding soon after. In December 2024, Deconstruction released the album on streaming services for the first time.
For now, there’s no sign that deconstruction is ever a sustained focus again, although Ivory’s title suggests that fans will be discovering where the Jane’s Addiction member’s music is headed sooner or later.
