Jay-Z’s lawyers have written to a New York court, revealing the rapper plans to “immediately” file a motion to dismiss a recent complaint accusing him of raping a teenager 24 years ago.
In the letter obtained advertising billboardthe legal team cited a new nbc In reports Friday night (December 13), the accuser — identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit filed against Jay-Z (real name Sean Carter) and Diddy — recalled the “catastrophic incident,” while also acknowledging some inconsistencies in her original account. “I made some mistakes,” she shared, noting that while she still stands by her accusations, some details are unclear.
One of the inconsistencies is that the woman initially said her father picked her up after the attack, but he denied this. She also claimed she spoke to singer Benji Madden at the event, even though he was not in New York at the time of the party.
The letter from Jay-Z’s attorney was directed at Doe’s attorney, Anthony Buzbee. “In light of today’s disclosures, Mr. Buzbee almost certainly failed to conduct a reasonable investigation of the facts before filing his complaint,” the message read. “He should never have made a claim.”
The letter concluded by stating that Jay “intends to file a motion immediately to dismiss the first amended complaint.”
In a press statement, Jay-Z echoed the sentiments of his attorney. “Today’s investigative report proves that this ‘lawyer’ Buzbee made false accusations against me in pursuit of money and fame. It didn’t happen, but he filed suit in court and redoubled his efforts in the media. Really Justice is coming. We fight to win, not to win. This 1-800 lawyer doesn’t realize it yet, but it will soon.
His lawyer, Alex Spiro, added: “It is shocking that the attorney not only made such a serious complaint without proper review, but also made the case by further peddling this false story in the media. Things get worse. We are asking the court today to dismiss this frivolous case and to impose additional disciplinary action against Mr. Buzbee and all of the attorneys who filed the complaint.
Last weekend, Jay-Z was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl with Diddy at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The shocking civil case was filed by an anonymous plaintiff, Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, whom Jay called a “deplorable human being.”
After the news broke, the rapper also denied all the accusations made against him. “It’s a gross error of judgment that you think all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” Jay-Z said. “I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who came out of the Brooklyn Project. We don’t play these types of games. We have a very strict code and honor. We protect children and you seem to be out for personal gain. And exploit others. Only your network of conspiracy theorists…will believe the stupid claims you make about me that would be laughable if not for the severity of the harm to children. I look forward to showing you how much I am. Be different.
Jay-Z continued, “My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I are going to have to sit our kids down and one of them has arrived and her friends are definitely going to see the media and ask about this.” Questions about the nature of the argument and explaining the age of cruelty and greed in people. I mourned yet another loss of innocence.
