John Krasinski Named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” this week, but he’ll always be Jim Halpert office Fans are everywhere. While that’s cute, it’s exactly why studio brass weren’t willing to take him seriously when he tried to make the leap from TV star to movie director.
In a recent interview with People (via CinemaBlend), Krasinski recalled how he struggled to direct the horror film quiet place (2018), which went on to spawn successful sequels and prequels. While he was initially approached to play a father figure in the film, he eventually wanted to go deeper into writing and directing. He explained:
“I read the script six weeks after Emily and I gave birth to our second daughter. I remember my whole world was different, the way I processed and saw the world was different.
I’m really shocked that writers would come up with this incredible idea if I had the chance to write a love letter. So I said “If I could rewrite the script and put my own spin on it and direct it, I would make the movie.” That’s what every producer wants to hear.
Becoming a parent is what really connected him to the story on a deeper level. Krasinski went on to reveal how difficult it was to convince Paramount bosses that he was the right person to direct quiet placeespecially given his reputation as Jim office.
“They were scared, and I had to pitch the studio about 54 times before they said yes. I’m pretty sure someone was like, ‘Sorry, is Jim from ‘The Office’ going to direct this movie? “I said, ‘It’s John, but we’ll get there. It doesn’t matter.’ And then they finally asked me to direct.”
He must have really sold his vision for the film because he pulled it off and he made a great movie that eventually became a franchise. he continues to direct A Quiet Place 2although he did not direct or write the first day, He really helped develop the story of the prequels.
He went on to direct the critically acclaimed family film ifin which he starred, and has since appeared in several other roles. We’ll next see him in a film directed by Guy Ritchie, fountain of youth.
