John Mayer has a message for victims of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County, recognizing that the many losses suffered this week are truly irreparable tragedies.

Mayer shared a photo of a folder on his social media account that included photos of his 97-year-old father, Richard, “whose life span was from baby, educator, husband and father,” the singer/songwriter said. The author has been called “the most valuable thing I own.”

“This is the only evidence of his life that survives over time,” Mayer wrote in his note. “These are the ‘documents’ you read about people taking from their homes. When you hear someone say they lost everything in a fire, that’s most, if not all, of it. Those who say they lost everything in a fire The ones who will be fine still have their folders and photo albums and the ones who are heartbroken have lost them.

Starting Tuesday, many people ordered to evacuate fire zones had just minutes to gather their families and pets and grab whatever they could before leaving a house they may never return to. Mayer’s title is aimed at people who don’t have time to salvage anything beyond the essentials, such as emotional treasures that can never be replaced.

“Behind the immeasurable loss of life is the loss of evidence of life,” he wrote. “I don’t practice prayer, but tonight I will pray for everyone who no longer has these items. It’s not about the art and the collectibles. It’s the photos, the letters, the rings, the glasses, the things we keep to remind us of what we love People are here. May those who have lost so much find some hope and support from family and friends.

Mayer concluded her speech by urging everyone to “stay safe, take care of yourself and others, and believe that humanity and all that it encompasses, although sometimes hard to see, is still alive and well. This is truly devastating.

Five people have been confirmed dead after multiple fires broke out in Los Angeles County starting Tuesday. The latest fire, dubbed the Kenneth Fire, is threatening the Calabasas area Thursday night. advertising billboard An updated list of organizations providing relief to musicians and music industry professionals affected by the devastating fires has been compiled, as well as an ongoing roundup of events and concerts canceled or postponed due to the fires.
