Katy Perry officially launches her highly anticipated album, lighting up second weekend of Rio Brasil 2024 143 On September 20th, a wonderful performance took place on the festival’s iconic Palco Mundo (main stage).
This is the third time the pop star has performed at Rock in Rio – twice in the Brazilian edition and once in Lisbon. Her latest main stage show featured a new setlist and custom-designed visuals, playing new tunes and well-loved classics in front of over 100,000 festivalgoers.
As if the album release wasn’t enough to get the night excited, the “Woman’s World” singer wowed fans by inviting pop legend Cyndi Lauper to perform a powerful duet on the icon’s song Shocked. advertising billboard 1984’s chart-topping single “Time After Time.”
“I want to sing one of my favorite songs that means a lot to me, especially in Brazil,” Perry told the audience as he brought Lauper on stage.
“I want to be like you when I grow up,” Perry told the “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” singer. “You are so incredible, so connected, so full of life, so full of energy.”

Rock in Rio 2024 is one of the most popular festivals on the global music calendar, featuring Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, Mariah Carey and more A host of heavy hitters, Perry’s high-energy performance and her surprise duet with Lauper – undoubtedly one of its defining moments.
Lauper’s legendary song “Time After Time,” co-written by Lauper and Rob Heyman, was released as the second single from her debut album, she is unusual. This June, “Time After Time” celebrates the landmark 40th anniversary of its debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984.
Prior to that, Lauper was near the top of the charts with her debut single “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” which peaked at No. 2 in March 1984 but was held back by Van Halen’s hit “Jump” . However, “Time After Time” managed to dethrone Deniece Williams’ “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”, staying at number one for two weeks before being replaced by Duran Duran’s “The Reflex”.
