Excellently, Kraven the hunter The result was exactly what I thought: an absolute disaster. Not only is this one of the worst movies I’ve seen this year, it’s yet another terrible comic book adaptation from Sony Pictures, which continues to fail in its attempts to build a Spider-Man universe without Spider-Man, and this movie It was the final nail in the coffin.
director JC Chandor We were promised a “damn good story” and a grounded comic book world, but what we got was a lifeless, pulseless slog.
The narrative is hollow, the script is laughably bad, and the acting is stilted at best and downright embarrassing at worst, especially the dialogue the actors have to deliver. So many lines feel like they were plucked from the most clichéd, unoriginal script rejections.
even Aaron Taylor JohnsonNormally a talented actor, he couldn’t fix this mess. His portrayal of Sergei Kravinov lacks the charisma and menace you’d expect from an iconic Marvel character like Kraven.
The CGI is also terrible. It’s not just the big, over-the-top action scenes that look cheap. Even smaller details, such as the actors’ obviously fake digit mouths, are equally unconvincing. For a movie with a reported budget of $100 million, you’d expect impressive effects. Instead, the visual effects simply emphasize the film’s mediocrity.
What’s crazy to me is that Chandor truly believed this movie told a “powerful story.” I don’t know how a director or anyone could watch this finished product and come to such a conclusion.
The film has erratic pacing, weak character development, and superficial attempts at grittiness and groundedness. If this is Sony’s philosophy of “quality storytelling,” then it’s no surprise that the Spider-Man spin-offs have bombed.
You know, a heartfelt origin story about Kraven the Hunter could work. There’s definitely potential in exploring how Sergei transformed into one of Marvel’s most terrifying villains before his vendetta against Spider-Man.
But the film wastes it at every turn. Instead of a compelling character study, we get a by-the-numbers action movie with no heart or identity.
The cast is filled with talented names such as Ariana DeBose, Russell Croweand Christopher Abbottbut none of them impressed. Crowe’s performance as Nikolai Kravinov borders on pastiche, while DeBose’s Calypso is woefully underwhelming. The villain “The Foreigner” played by Abbott is simply a waste of a character.
Then there’s the rhinoceros, by Alessandra Nivolaa character that was supposed to add an exciting element to the story, but ultimately failed. Rhino is one of Spider-Man’s most well-known foes, so you’d think they’d at least make an effort to do something interesting with him.
Instead, what we get is a bland, unmotivated opponent whose design is uninspired and nowhere near the iconic look fans have come to expect. This is just another wasted opportunity and only adds to the disappointment this film brings.
What baffles me is that Sony actually approved this script and thought it was worth over $100 million. No one stopped to think, “Maybe this isn’t it?” The studio’s enthusiasm for the project was incredible, especially considering the poor response to their previous Spider-Man spin-offs. They have learned nothing from their past failures.
Now, I know some people love this movie, hey, more power to them. If this is something you enjoy, I’m glad you found some enjoyment in it. But what about me? This is a laughably bad movie that I will never watch again. it’s there mrs webb.
To be fair, I can’t say I am Disappointed Because I walked in with minimal expectations and this movie met my expectations perfectly. If anything, I’m relieved that Sony has put a hiatus on these spin-offs for the time being. Kraven the hunter It feels like the last gasp of a dying experiment.
final, Kraven the hunter It’s a colossal misstep, a soulless, poorly executed money grab that fails to do justice to its titular character. If you’re looking for a great comic book movie, you won’t find it here. Save your time and money.
