KTLA’s full-time and part-time material managers voted unanimously through the International Drama Stage Staff (IATSE) and the local film editors’ association of productions. The vote was conducted today by the National Labor and Industrial Relations Board (NLRB) of KTLA’s Historic Sunset Avenue Studio (NLRB).
Since 1956, IATSE has represented most other technicians and craftsmen in KTLA, and the union’s current agreement covers about 200 skilled laggards-station racing workers. The new group has never been represented by a union before.
The organized group consists of about twelve material managers. These employees play a vital role in KTLA’s news operations – assisting editorial segments, performing quality assurance functions, and managing the radio’s extensive media archives by storing and retrieving essential visual elements. Despite their contributions being crucial, they have long lacked the protection and benefits of union contracts.
“We are honored to welcome these hard-working professionals to the Editorial Association family,” said Ace Alan Heim, president of the Editorial Association. “KTLA’s material managers support each other and stand up for their right to speak out at work. These people know the value of their work and they deserve to sit down on the table. We’re so glad we were able to help them win.”
KTLA’s parent company Nexstar voted and refused to voluntarily recognize the union despite most signing authorization cards. Leading –
