Macedonian producer and actress Labina Mitevska has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Eurimages International Co-Production Award, recognizing the producer’s contribution to promoting international film collaboration. Mitevski, co-founder of Sisters and Brother Mitevski Production in Skopje, North Macedonia, will receive the award from the European film grant organization Eurimages and the European Film Academy.
Mitevska began her acting career with the 1994 Venice Film Festival Golden Lion-winning film directed by Milčo Mančevski before it rainswhich was also nominated for an Oscar. In 2001, she founded her own production company, Sisters and Brother Mitevski Production, together with siblings Teona and Vuk.
The company’s filmography includes their first short film Know (2001), which received special jury recognition at the Berlin International Film Festival. Their first function, how i killed the saint (2004), premiered in Rotterdam. Subsequent works include I’m from Titov Veles (2007), woman wiping tears (2012), and God exists and her name is Petrunia (2019), winner of the European Parliament LUX Audience Award.
Recent works include The happiest person in the world (2022) and 21 days until the end of the world (2023). Mitevska is currently in production Skateboarding is not for girls and Motherstarring Noomi Rapace.
As a producer, Mitewska has collaborated on nine Eurimages-backed films, including one for director Cristi Puiu (Sierra Nevada), Nuri Bilge Ceylon (wild pear tree) and Pierre Zalika (labor day in may).
Mitewska will receive the honor at the European Film Awards on December 7 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
