Lauren DavisA veteran music business lawyer, he has been promoted to deputy director of the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University.
Davis joined the college’s full-time faculty in 2006 and teaches courses on the legal and business aspects of the music industry, including intellectual property law. She also speaks on social entrepreneurship and promoting equity and inclusion in music. As CDI’s director of professional development, she oversees graduate professional planning and senior professional development courses.
Davis has 33 years of experience as a music and entertainment attorney, representing well-known recording artists, songwriters, producers, publishers and music companies. She also served for six years as a Faculty Senator on the NYU Faculty Council, where she advocated for faculty interests.

“Her music business and legal expertise, along with her academic focus on music industry policy, rights advocacy and gender equality, have influenced and guided the professional lives of many of our students and alumni,” he said. “Her willingness to serve as vice chair deepens her contribution to the development of our curriculum and mission and is a huge win for our program.”
Davis expressed her excitement for her new role, saying it has been a privilege to teach and develop future industry leaders for the past 18 years, adding that she was “thrilled to roll up her sleeves and serve as Chair alongside Nick Sansano and Help guide the growth and expansion of the Clive Davis Institute in the coming years.
Named for the iconic music executive, the program, part of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, offers a unique BFA program that blends business, creativity and intellectual exploration. CDI celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year and is advertising billboardAnnual ranking of top music business schools.
