Artists need to be business savvy, and rappers like Lil Baby understand this—especially in today’s music industry.
The Atlanta rapper recently graduated from Harvard Business School’s Launch a New Business program earlier this year, and his family celebrated with a party. A video circulating online shows the baby attending class before heading home for a surprise party thrown by family and friends.
Launching New Ventures is a program designed for “entrepreneurs launching their own startups and executives responsible for launching innovation in established companies.” The site’s subtitle reads: “To be a successful entrepreneur, you need more than just a good idea—you need the right skills and mindset to execute it. This program helps prepare you to transform your business into a disruptor.” Transforming Innovation into Competitive Advantage and Profitable Business. This course is in-person, lasts 7 days, requires 12-15 hours of pre-work, and costs $19,000.
Baby heads up his own record label, Glass Window Entertainment, with 42 Dugg and Rylo Rodriguez as his artists respectively, so these skills are very important for someone like him. He recently released “5AM,” the lead single from his fourth solo album WHAM: Who works as hard as me?. There’s no release date yet, but Baby said on X that he plans to release another song and video soon.
Apparently, he’s been going through some things in his personal life, as he said on Instagram the night before he made his official statement. “Isn’t it crazy that they try to play me like I’m not that person? It’s that time! I want to say it again, but this run will be completely different!!” he wrote. “I’ve been through it the past two years. The darkest time of my life but I persevered and got over it – and now I’m back to my usual self… Sincerely, Wham! Let’s go.
But he has been busy at work. In addition to completing this course, he has recently been working in the studio with Future and Young Thug. Hopefully this means we’ll be getting more new music soon.
