The Board of Directors of the Institute of Motion Picture Editors (IATSE Local 700) has voted to appoint Scott George as its new National Executive Director, effective February 1, 2025. , Cathy Repola will retire on January 31.
George, who has served as the Editors Guild’s Western executive director for the past eight years, will now serve as a senior staff member of Local 700, the second largest of IATSE’s 13 local Hollywood firms with offices in Los Angeles and New York.
“Now, unionism is more important than ever to protect the interests of workers in our rapidly changing industry,” said Alan Heim, president of the Society of Editors. “The passing of the baton from Kathy to Scott ensures strong, stable leadership for the Guild for many years to come.”
“Serving as National Executive Director of Local 700 is a tremendous honor in my career, and I am extremely pleased to hand the reins to Scott, who I have mentored and worked with for many years and who is passionate about the labor movement,” said outgoing National Executive said Director Cathy Repola.
A third-generation member of IATSE Local 683, George began his career on the Film Lab floor in Hollywood. His election as store representative sparked a passion for advocacy among union members.
While serving as Local 683 Representative, George successfully led the local area through significant financial challenges and negotiated transformative contracts. His leadership in the transformation of digital cinema technology culminated in the successful merger of Local 683 and Editors Guild in 2010.

Repola will leave a remarkable legacy for the Guild. Earlier this year, she joined other local Hollywood leaders in successfully negotiating basic agreement contracts with film and television producers. The daughter of union officials, she has enjoyed a remarkable 32-year tenure with the union, guiding complex contract negotiations, managing critical executive mergers, and guiding the organization through critical transitions within the industry, including a global pandemic and instability. played an important role.
The Film Editors Guild is the largest union representing post-production professionals in the entertainment industry. Headquartered in Los Angeles and New York, the organization has approximately 8,500 active members, including photo editors, sound editors, mixers and other professionals.
