upcoming Balloonism A new announcement says a record by late rapper Mac Miller will be released alongside a short film of the same name.
Miller’s Balloonism The second posthumous album to be released since his death in 2018, it’s scheduled for release on Friday (January 17), but fans can easily experience it via the accompanying new movie.
The animated adaptation is based on Miller’s lyrics and music, and is directed by Samuel Jerome Mason. Balloonism The synopsis of the film reads: “A group of school friends were transformed by the music of the polyphonic organ and entered a shadow world.” “Swallowed by the tortoise of time, they must wade through the underbelly of adulthood.”
The film is set to be released nationwide in the U.S. on Wednesday (January 15) and will be available to international fans a day later. A series of “one-night-only” advance theatrical screenings are planned around the world, including in New York City and Miller’s hometown of Pittsburgh. In keeping with the theme of the new record, tickets will be priced at $5 (or “approximate price in markets outside the U.S.”), in line with the album’s lead single, “5 Dollar Pony Rides.”
Miller’s Balloonism The album has been the subject of fan speculation for more than a decade, and the rapper recorded it during the release of his 2013 album Watch movie with sound off and subsequent mixtapes, Delusional Thomas and face. As leaked songs circulated among fan communities, the record’s official release was teased at the Camp Flog Gnaw music festival in November.
“We believe this project showcases his breadth of musical talent and fearlessness as an artist,” they added. “Given that unofficial versions of the album have been circulating online for years, and the release Balloonism As important to him as Malcolm has often said, we thought it would be most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.
Last week, “5 Dollar Pony Rides” was shared ahead of the album’s release, with production assistance from Miller’s close friend and collaborator Thundercat.
