One of those charged in connection with the death of Liam Payne earlier this week has now been arrested by Argentine authorities.
Braian Paiz, one of two men accused of supplying Payne with drugs before his death, was arrested on Friday (Jan. 3), according to police. cbs news Report. The former One Direction singer died after falling from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16. A preliminary autopsy report attributed his death to multiple trauma and bleeding sustained during the fall, while a toxicology report noted the presence of alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants in his system. Prior to the incident, the hotel receptionist made two emergency calls to request medical services, the first reporting that a guest had “soiled the entire room” and the second reporting concern that the guest “might be in danger.”
According to an announcement issued by Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office, Pez was one of five people charged in the death of Payne on Monday (December 30). Others charged include hotel manager Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi and Payne’s friend Roger Nores, who all face manslaughter charges; and hotel employee Ezequiel Ezequiel Pereyra, who was accused of supplying drugs to the singer.
“Penn had a change of consciousness and there was a balcony in the room,” said Laura Bruniard, the judge overseeing the case in Argentina. “The correct thing to do was to keep him in a safe place and with someone until the arrival of the doctor. The persons in charge of the hotel that day were the manager GAM and the head of reception ERG,” the judge continued, using the suspect’s initials. The judge went on to note that while the men may not have intended Payne’s death, their actions or inactions posed a substantial risk to his life.
If convicted, the person charged with manslaughter in the case faces one to five years in prison, while the person accused of supplying Payne the drugs faces four to 15 years in prison. British Broadcasting Corporation.
