Mayfair Season 1 was a mess with too many characters and not enough payoff, so the only way out is Mayfair Season 2 Episode 1, which picks up the pace and showcases AMC’s second There may still be life in this Immortal Universe series.
The premiere was full of potential, but as the season progressed, some glaring issues with adapting Anne Rice’s excellent novel had to be addressed.
Let’s dive in because we have a lot to discuss.
After the physical and mental effects of Mayfair Witches Season 1 Episode 8, it’s a wonder Rowan didn’t leave the country and find another way to pass the time, because who in their right mind would want to stay What about in New Orleans?
Alexandra Daddario is too soft in the role of Rowan. She’s enjoying the different levels of character she’s playing this season, but there’s still room for improvement.
One of the best aspects of the series is that the Mayfairs have different opinions on Rusher, making it increasingly difficult for Rowan to choose a side. On the one hand, she considers him her son because she gave birth to him.
On the other hand, she is well aware of his homicidal tendencies and how he has manipulated generations of her family for his evil motives.
There’s a lot we don’t know about Whiplash, and Mayfair Witches Season 2 looks set to zero in on that knowledge.
Jack Huston didn’t get to do much in the premiere, as Rashel spent most of his time growing up, but the show could have benefited from another episode or two of teenage Rashel, giving Rowan More time to form an attachment to him.
The complex dynamic between them is handled well and there’s a lot to be gained by continuing. That said, the pace sometimes has to be stepped up to accommodate such a short season, so the rewards may be worth the sacrifice.
Speaking of sacrifice, what exactly did Raschel do to Lucy? More importantly, what are the chances that the woman who caught his eye on Bourbon Street was another family member?
Something must have told him she was a Mayfair, because he couldn’t avoid them.
The wider question about the murder is how it will affect the rest of Mayfair Witches season 2, as anti-whiplash members of the family may attack Rowan for her involvement in hiding the body.
Of course, there’s no concrete evidence that Rasheer killed Lucy, but there must have been a lot going on that we didn’t know about because the show wants to unravel a mystery that keeps us questioning.
Considering what we’ve seen of Rusher in the past and present, his unscrupulous behavior is par for the course.
Moira’s inclusion is an interesting development, as she holds Rowan partly responsible for her sister’s death. Rowan’s actions didn’t help her case, and Moira benefited greatly from working with Cyprien.
Cyprien was one of the best-written characters in Mayfair Season 1, but his storyline this season was frustrating and unbelievable.
The fact that he fled Taramasca because he was convinced they wanted to erase his memory just to serve a higher purpose for him and Moira is laughable.
Considering we’ve witnessed Rowan go to great lengths to keep people away from Rashel, it’s hard to believe she didn’t do something to incapacitate him so she wouldn’t have to look over her shoulder every two minutes.
The problem for Moira is that she will now be in Rusher’s crosshairs because he knows she resents him for not helping Tessa in her time of need.
Add to that the fact that she’ll likely be teaming up with Cyprien, and it’s easy to see where Rasher is heading in the remainder of Mayfair Witches season 2.
The big question is where the chips will fall elsewhere in Mayfair. Everyone has a very different take on him, which should create a ton of storyline potential.
Rowan is busy trying to figure out how to stop his growth and powers, but at least we get to see her share a tender moment with the young girl battling cancer.
There is a part of Rowan that wants to see the good in everyone and is determined to help those in need, which is perfectly reflected at the hospital.
Still, so many gaps about her past make Lark one of the most important additions to Mayfair Witches this season.
It’s clear that he and Rowan share a past together, and judging by the reaction Lark heard from her on the other end of the phone, it might not be completely over between them just yet.
Lark strikes me as the kind of guy who would go out of his way to help Rowan, and he’s already doing that when it comes to testing Rasheer’s blood sample.
The season premiere introduced some interesting storylines, but I’m not sure many of the characters’ storylines made sense.
Wasted potential was the name of the game in Season 1, but I hope the series continues to address its issues to deliver something more befitting of the source material.
The success of Mayfair Season 2 will largely depend on AMC’s full-speed push into the Immortals universe.
Taramasca will be released later this year, but considering the agency plays a sizable role in “Mayfair Witches,” viewers may be tired of their storylines by the time the show premieres .
Then again, it might be more like Interview with the Vampire , whose second season is arguably one of the best shows of 2024.
The series successfully takes the source material and transforms it into excellent supernatural drama.
