    Meryl Streep to star in drama adaptation of ‘The Punishment’ – GeekTyrant

    Meryl Streep Starring in the series based on the 2001 novel correcttells the story of a Midwestern couple and their adult children.

    author Jonathan Franzen is adapting the novel, which HBO attempted to adapt in 2011. Noah Baumbach.

    The pilot features an all-star cast, including Chris Cooper, diane west, Ivan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Evans and Greta Gerwig. HBO ultimately did not move forward with the project.

    In the story, “After nearly fifty years as a wife and mother, Enid Lambert was ready to have some fun. Unfortunately, she lost her husband Alfred to Parkinson’s disease Without reason, their children have already left the family and headed towards the disaster of their own lives.

    “The eldest Gary, a once stable portfolio manager and family man, is trying to convince his wife and himself that, despite some worrying signs, he is not clinically depressed.

    “Chip, the middle child, has lost his seemingly stable academic job and is doing terribly in his new one.

    “And Denise, the youngest, escaping a disastrous marriage only to have her youth and beauty wasted on an affair with a married man – or so her mother feared.

    “Desperate for some joy, Enid has her heart set on an elusive goal: having her family spend one last Christmas together at home.”

    The new program is set up at CBS Studios.
