    Metallica covers El Tri at 3rd Mexico City concert: Watch

    Metallica continued their tribute to the Mexican band on Friday (September 28). In the third of four shows in the capital, the metal legends paid tribute to legendary rock band El Tri with a cover of their famous song “ADO”, once again sung by bassist Robert Trujillo .

    Just like last week, Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett surprised the 65,000 people gathered at GNP Seguros Stadium with their own versions of classics from Mexican pop, according to promoter Ocesa. On the first night (September 20), Metallica paid tribute to the northern music group Los Tucanes de Tijuana by performing the song “La Chona”. Two days later (September 22), they paid tribute to rock group Caifanes with their cumbia hit “La Negra Tomasa”.

    “ADO” was composed by a band led by veteran rock singer Alex Lora, and refers to the Autobuses de Oriente (ADO) central bus station, one of the largest bus stations in the country.

    “Mom, turn on the tape recorder because #Metallica is singing ADO Rock and Roll!” user @Orlas33 on X tweeted Lora’s explanation, along with a video of the moment.

    On September 21, during a private conversation between photographer Ross Halfin and a group of Metallica fans attended by Trujillo and Hammett, the bassist of Mexican origin hinted at the possibility of including one of El Tri’s songs as part of their cover. During the performance in the city.

    With a history of 55 years, El Tri is one of the pioneering bands in the Mexican and Latin American rock scene. Over the years, it has sold more than 30 million records and received four Grammy nominations for Best Latin Rock Album. In 2022, Lola received the Latin Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Metallica’s history with Mexico began thirty years ago when they released their self-titled album (commonly known as The Black Album) in 1991, which included five shows at the Palacio de los Deportes in 1993. The band has maintained a very good momentum of development. pride, passion and glory (2009), depicts three spectacular nights in June 2009 at Foro Sol (now GNP Seguros Stadium).

    On Sunday (September 29), they played their fourth and final show in Mexico City as part of the M72 World Tour, which brings them back to the Latin American country after a seven-year absence.
