Arthouse distribution company Mubi has signed a multi-territory deal for Daniel Craig starring Luca Guadagnino Queer.
The deal, announced on Friday, will see Mubi acquire all rights Queer All rights (excluding theatrical rights) in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Latin America, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Spain, Turkey and India, and in Italy. A24 has American negatives
Queer The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and had its North American premiere in Toronto last month.
The film is adapted from Burroughs’ 1950s autobiographical novel and stars Daniel Craig alongside Drew Stuckey, Leslie Manville and Jason Schwartz. The former 007 star plays William Lee, an American expat and heroin addict living in Mexico City who spends his days almost entirely alone, aside from some contact with other members of his small American community. His encounter with Starkey’s Eugene Allerton, an expatriate veteran, leads him to believe that it’s finally possible to have an intimate connection with someone.
Queer The film is produced by Guadagnino for his Frenesy Film Company, Lorenzo Mieli for Fremantle-owned The Apartment Group, and Fremantle and Fremantle North America in partnership with Cinecittà and Frame by Frame. Freemantle financed the film. The Veterans is responsible for global sales of the game and brokered the deal with Mubi.
