The film tells the story of an unlikely group of characters facing a zombie apocalypse. The story begins when two employees at a medical supply warehouse, Frank and Freddy, accidentally release military gas from a canister stored in the warehouse.
The gas reanimates the body and spreads to nearby cemeteries, raising the dead from their graves. Unlike traditional zombies, these undead creatures are particularly hungry for human brains, and they are fast, nearly indestructible, and able to talk.
Chaos ensues as Frank, Freddy, their boss Bert and a group of punk rock teenagers fight to stay up, and the situation spirals out of control as the military is forced to intervene.
The film’s perfect blend of dark humor and gruesome horror creates a unique tone that sets it apart from other zombie films of its time.
