I’m happy to announce that I’m officially launching Color Grading Masterclass today! I created this course in direct response to numerous requests from readers who have been calling for a comprehensive guide to achieving a film look in post-production.

This 5+ hour masterclass is unlike any other online color grading course. While many existing courses simply focus on teaching the capabilities of a specific color grading application (such as DaVinci Resolve), this course is primarily creative in nature. My goal is to share my go-to methods for creating film looks in an easy-to-understand way—no matter your skill level as a colorist, or what software you prefer to use.

My personal approach to color grading has always been to keep it simple. Many of the best looks I create are the result of simple, purposeful color adjustments that are developed quickly and easily. I’ve always believed that overly complex color treatments create unnecessary work for the colorist, and the final product can look “overcooked” or obviously tinted. This ideology is the inspiration behind my masterclass.

By the end of the course, each visitor will have the skills needed to create unlimited, fully customizable creative looks, taking the aesthetics of their projects to the next level. And in record time.

Most tutorials are demonstrated in DaVinci Resolve, but the focus of this course is on utilizing the tools, techniques, and methods to deliver stunning color results, no matter what software you choose. Therefore, almost everything demonstrated in the course can be equally applied to FCP X, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, or any other editing/coloring platform!

The Masterclass even has a lesson that showcases every major color tool across multiple editing platforms, so anyone who uses multiple apps can learn how to apply these creative methods to your work, no matter which platform you use.

The course consists of 12 lessons, each about 30 minutes long, totaling over 5 hours. The courses are divided as follows:

    Setup and preparation

    1. key tools– The most basic color grading tools, their main functions and their location in DaVinci Resolve, FCP X and Premiere Pro.
    2. Operation sequence– Bulletproof workflow for RAW and compressed formats designed to optimize footage for maximum creative potential.
    3. Lens Matching and Basic Levels– The first critical step in any level of creativity.

    Color restoration

    1. exposure Adjustment– Technology that handles over/underexposed footage to provide optimal brightness levels with minimal noise.
    2. Balance colors– Implement best practices for primary school grades, starting with natural/organic.
    3. Perfect skin tone– Assess and resolve common technical issues affecting skin tone for a more beautiful appearance.

    Popular creative looks

    1. timeless movie look– Step-by-step tutorial showing the correct execution of several popular looks associated with classic movies.
    2. big budget look – From science fiction to action movies and everything in between, this course teaches the core color grading techniques for several popular big screen looks.
    3. hyper stylized– Creative technique used for palette coloring for music videos, commercials, art films, and other projects that require a more radical color palette.

    polishing

    1. black/white level– Find the right shadow/highlight balance and achieve consistent brightness throughout long projects.
    2. Particle and film simulation– Apply film grain and simulation best practices in post to give digital footage a more analog look.
    3. color uniformity– The final phase, exploring how global settings, LUTs, and other tools can be used collaboratively to create a cohesive aesthetic.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills you need to achieve incredible color results in less time than ever before. It will help you realize your vision, over-deliver for your clients, and maximize your time with a clear path to the finish line.

Here is a sample video tutorial for Lesson 7 in the list above –

In addition to the video, you will each receive 3 custom movie LUTs (color filters), which you can also keep. These LUTs will be used as part of demos, but are also designed for real-world use, so you can start applying them to your projects right away.

    Courses are priced at $249.
